Do we need a rule on sig lengths

BD has suggested we have a rule on sig lengths, as every other forum seems to have official rules, and we "used to have one."

Do we need a written rule?

My preference is some FAQ that broadly tells people to behave themselves such as:

"Your sig should be short, and non-invasive. We trust you to use your judegment otherwise. Don't abuse that trust. We're here to communicate, not to read long sigs. If you have a question about what is considered invasive, ask a mod or the current arbiter. If you don't feel comfortable asking them, you're in the wrong place to begin with."

That's if we need to write anything down at all.

I don't think a rule is necessary.

However, there is an issue here that has been overlooked for far too long.

I am sure some of you have noticed the ..... posting that goes on around here. It seems that every time I come back to the site, there are new posts in various forums. It seems as though members can not help themselves and feel this compulsion to post messages and replies ad infinitum.

Is this really the kind of behavior we want to condone in our forums? Do we really want people posting messages and replies here whenever they like? Shouldn't we have some sort of rule to control this behavior and prevent potential abuses?

;)

I voted yes, but it's no longer an issue for me.

Sixteen people voted on the poll, so I know more or less what other people think, therefore I can act accordingly.

Thank you all who voted.

On a similar note Messiah, I have noticed many people playing games here when they should be working... as an example I have seen KJ hanging round chat rooms and playing games when there is clearly lots of work to be done... a crackdown on this frivolous behaviour is sorely needed IMHO

Indeed, NF, you are quite right about that. This game playing really seems to be getting out of control. It is as though people around here just want to have fun all the time.

And you are right, KJ seems to be especially guilty. Do we really want someone who acts so irresponsibly wearing the SSX tags? Is this the image we want to project?

You know, I just realized how behind I am with my post count. I'm not even half of MS' ... Time to start cracking on those less than 5 word posts. I'll have to model myself after my fellow mentor:

You know the main reason why i have so many posts is cos i've been part of a lot of our groups. > Neocron, Dawn of War, GW (beta) and now WoW, and then there's our general/members forums that i post in too. It's not like i spam or anything. :p :o

There have been a few that showed up pretty long, but the majority of them have been modified by the person to be much shorter..

Which is nice, becuase upto this point Sigs haven't been an issue. :)

The general popluation of the SSX seems to be a smart one, and they have non-lenghty sigs. So, it's not needed, but I voted yes anyway, just in case some rare-nutcase tries to make a big one. The overall population is a good pool of good people. Not necessary, but doesnt hurt to have one that everyone and the overall members seems to follow anyway.
I always believed that the core of what made SSC great in the past, is here in the present and future of the SSX.

I must agree, the posting epidemic has gone on for too long! Need we live in the constant fear that someone may post a message too tempting to resist? And the horrific effects it has the posters, I mean look at Quiz, or failing that... MS... *shudders*

Peace. =)
bah my forums is dead, so it is removed from my sig...

Btw, I'm making a game, it will be awesome, you will look forward to it.[/hype]
