A general Rant/Food for thought SSX related.

Post by Gryphon »

Right - first of all - a mini rant.

SSX- lovely bunch of people - or at least it used to be.

WoW has killed it

Everyone else fine. - Lovely people who like to chat in IRC and are generally interested in everyone else.

WoW bunch? Nowt - Not a hello - nothoing - except the longtime regs who were here before we went WoW. This new lot just seem plain F**king ignorant. They don't talk they don't do anything. They don't bother to find out about us.

If they had a clue about us they'd stop calling us a guild for a start - I know it's a small issue, but it shows clearly they haven't bothered to read our statement or find out anything about us.

I'm sticking it in general to prove a point. I refuse to say to a lot of people

"HEY! other forums exist too - at least meet the rest of the SSX!"

Only the people among us who care are gong to bother to respond to this. In my opinion anyone else can go to hell. it would seem pretty obvious they don't give a monkey's. Thats right - I'm beyond P**sed.

Seriously - something needs to be done - there's very little interaction between people recently - and if it carries on then the SSX is going to go tits up.

Sounds like an MMO to me...

-edit-
My initial response was trite, apologies.

People who play MMO's seem to be single minded. It takes time and effort to come out of the trance to do something on a forum, time and effort that could be spent levelling/mining/whatever.

From the view I have, WoW seems to have improved a GREAT deal in the last couple weeks. I expect it will slowly continue to improve. We will never get every MMO player to post here, unless we make it a condition of remaining a member. which seems a bit harsh.

Dunno.

[17:42] <SSX-Anubis> and I have indeed read Gryph's post
[17:43] <SSX-Anubis> the problem is that, whilst new members are all registering on the forum to say hi now, as is part of the recruitment process now, they aren't going back or simply arent getting involved
[17:43] <SSX-Anubis> its a 'register to get in then forget bout it' thing :/
[17:43] <Kahn> 98% of the big issues here have been about WoW, 2% was back last year when we were figureing out how the community was set up
[17:44] <SSX-Anubis> the issue isnt just WoW full stop
[17:44] <SSX-Anubis> the issue is still recruitment
[17:44] <EdGardner-MGT> no, I expect it is ANY MMO
[17:44] <Kahn> did NC2 have recruiteing probs?
[17:44] <SSX-Anubis> the recruits we take on arent as community based as we may be. You cant expect everyone to be
[17:44] <EdGardner-MGT> we have some nice people in FFXI, only about 1/3rd of them bother to use the forums
[17:44] <Kahn> bah suck at spelling
[17:44] <SSX-Anubis> exactly Ed
[17:45] <SSX-Anubis> and not sure Kahn, when I was playing NC2 there was no recruiting going on :/
[17:45] <EdGardner-MGT> MMO players are fairly single minded, if you will allow a generalization
[17:45] <Kahn> maybe because we have no FF forum? and if i remember the FF group isnt even called SSX
[17:45] <EdGardner-MGT> it's not
[17:45] <EdGardner-MGT> they have their own forum
[17:45] <SSX-Anubis> the SeventhLegion have their own forum
[17:45] <EdGardner-MGT> just using them as an example
[17:46] <Kahn> then why post here? :)
[17:46] <SSX-Anubis> the same goes for NC2 really. Only a minority of the community use the official forums
[17:46] <EdGardner-MGT> they don;t post on their own forum either was my point
[17:46] <Kahn> oh
[17:46] <EdGardner-MGT> evE was like that as well
[17:46] <EdGardner-MGT> EvE
[17:46] <SSX-Anubis> Kahn, they didnt have their own forum when they posted here ;)
[17:46] <Kahn> ugh EVE
[17:46] <EdGardner-MGT> pople are pretty single minded in these things
[17:46] <BlackDove> heh
[17:46] <BlackDove> this doesn't come as a surprise, I was expecting this
[17:46] <EdGardner-MGT> all they want to do is level/mine/grind whatever
[17:47] <EdGardner-MGT> and for the record, I have seen WoW improve from my birds eye view since the changes a couple weeks ago
[17:47] <Kahn> but u are right, SSX WoW is on the same path as SSC EVE
[17:47] <SSX-Anubis> WoW has been slowly improving for a while now.
[17:48] <SSX-Anubis> no Kahn
[17:48] <SSX-Anubis> WoW is not on the same path as EvE
[17:48] <BlackDove> Actually, it kind of is
[17:48] <EdGardner-MGT> I dunno, I honestly think MS has gotten his arms around it
[17:48] <EdGardner-MGT> someone cares
[17:48] <SSX-Anubis> MS has done a lot for the WoW group
[17:48] <BlackDove> But he is only one
[17:48] <BlackDove> In the majority group of the rest
[17:49] <Kahn> Inq, it is
[17:49] <BlackDove> What do you think the rogue ban was about heh?
[17:49] <Kahn> MC
[17:49] <SSX-Anubis> I still think however that we need to take drastic action with WoW
[17:49] <EdGardner-MGT> I think they handled that fine in the end, it's not a ban, per se
[17:49] <BlackDove> They handled it only becuase I barked
[17:49] <BlackDove> Nobody would care otherwise
[17:50] <EdGardner-MGT> I noticed it to mon amis
[17:50] <Kahn> "allow the nice ones" shouldnt that apply to all classes?
[17:50] <EdGardner-MGT> yes
[17:50] <Kahn> they are letting every priest in because they need more for MC
[17:50] <BlackDove> That's worrying
[17:50] <SSX-Anubis> no, they arent
[17:50] <EdGardner-MGT> there's a contradiction there
[17:51] <SSX-Anubis> please dont generalise without having wither QD or MS here to speak for them, as its them who handle the recruiting :/
[17:51] <Kahn> what priests and druids have been turned away latley?
[17:51] <BlackDove> Not so much that it's an MC objective though, as much as the fact that people are getting in solely because they play something. If it's going on, I don't like it.
[17:51] <SSX-Anubis> though I can tell you now we dont simply let priests, druids, and warlocks in just because of their class
[17:52] <SSX-Anubis> I agree with BD, MC is playing too big a part in things atm. But thats happening in every guild unfortunatly
[17:53] <BlackDove> What's inconvenient though...
[17:53] <BlackDove> A lot of impostors that pretend to be nice, to get in solely for MC
[17:53] <Kahn> ya bd
[17:53] <Kahn> is right
[17:53] <BlackDove> QD likes his ass kissed, and I'm sure whoever wants in for MC, will kiss a lot of ass.
[17:53] <SSX-Anubis> that would happen anyway BD, but they get turfed out when that becomes apparent
[17:53] <BlackDove> Just one of my worries.
[17:53] <Kahn> QD likes his ass kissed?
[17:54] <SSX-Anubis> you cant stop every single imposter getting in
[17:54] <BlackDove> Oh but you can.
[17:54] <SSX-Anubis> regardless of how thorough you are with them
[17:54] <Kahn> u can kick them once they get in
[17:54] <SSX-Anubis> aside from by closing recruiting
[17:54] <EdGardner-MGT> you will have imposters
[17:54] <EdGardner-MGT> no way around that
[17:54] <SSX-Anubis> true Kahn, but they're still getting in
[17:54] <Kahn> when they start talking in guild chat "anyone doing MC?" boot them
[17:54] <BlackDove> But I mean just simply from the statistical point of view, it's a bad mojo without the fault of the group.
[17:55] <BlackDove> Especially bad for us, because our foundation is contra to that.
[17:55] <CaptJosh> And this is in relation to which game?
[17:55] <EdGardner-MGT> constructive conversation, try not to arbitrarily condemn things
[17:55] <BlackDove> Efficiency over bonds... never ends well.
[17:55] <BlackDove> Hopefully it'll never come to that.
[17:56] <EdGardner-MGT> for the record (again) I am not worried
[17:56] <SSX-Anubis> the thing is, MC is basically THE endgame content. Those who've capped, done UBRS etc, thats basically all they want to do. Go do MC as its one of the few things they've not done. That wont change unfortunatly. And the more people who cap the more important MC is to the guild. It shouldnt work like that but it does
[17:56] <Kahn> i liked the 30-person SSX we had last year :)
[17:56] <Kahn> much much closer
[17:56] <BlackDove> 30 person? O.o
[17:56] <Kahn> and almost everyone poped into irc sometimes
[17:56] <EdGardner-MGT> sounds like the game is broken then, if all there is to do ione endgame thing over and over again
[17:56] <Kahn> the beginning
[17:57] <BlackDove> 70-80 person was SSX begining
[17:57] <EdGardner-MGT> well, 60ish
[17:57] <QD> if i were doin it for ass kissing
[17:57] <QD> i'd be in the best guild on the server
[17:57] <SSX-Anubis> well Ed, there are several other places they COULD go. But MC is the one place to give them the biggest challenge imo
[17:57] <BlackDove> That's my fear.
[17:57] <QD> not dragging SSX through MC kicking and screaming
[17:57] <Kahn> BWL
[17:58] <BlackDove> That's exactly my fear.
[17:58] <Kahn> is there nothing there?
[17:58] <SSX-Anubis> you really cant even attempt BWL until you can run MC.....
[17:58] <BlackDove> Because if you crack one of these days, they all follow you for efficiency.
[17:58] <Kahn> onixia?
[17:58] <SSX-Anubis> from what I hear BWL is incredibly harder
[17:58] <BlackDove> Not that I'm going to miss someone I never knew. But it's still sour.
[17:58] <Kahn> harder????
[17:58] <SSX-Anubis> Onyxia the guild is working towards, not enough people ready yet
[17:58] <SSX-Anubis> BWL is the hardest instance in the game
[17:58] <Kahn> i thought MC was harder than onyxia
[17:59] * SSX-Anubis doesnt know
[17:59] <Kahn> but hey, when i played WoW i only got to midgame
[17:59] <SSX-Anubis> all I know is the guild isnt ready for Onyxia yet
[17:59] <Kahn> so i know nothing about endgame
[17:59] <EdGardner-MGT> the concept of "end game" bothers me
[17:59] <SSX-Anubis> not enough people with keys etc maybe
[17:59] <EdGardner-MGT> but that is just me
[18:00] <Kahn> good point inq
[18:00] <EdGardner-MGT> speaking of, i need to finihs the last couple GW quests so I can get to the new areas
[18:00] <SSX-Anubis> tbh when I cap all I plan to do is run the battlegrounds a lot ;)
[18:00] <EdGardner-MGT> something like an MMO shouldn't have an end
[18:00] <SSX-Anubis> agreed
[18:00] <Kahn> lol then if we all agree on that why we all playing? :p
[18:00] <EdGardner-MGT> but, I am not a typical MMO player
[18:00] <SSX-Anubis> but unfortuantly when you hit the level cap and find that there are now very limited places you can go, it feels like an end
[18:00] <EdGardner-MGT> I have taken my own sweet <censored> time getting to 40 in FF
[18:00] <CaptJosh> An endgame scenario is an odd thing to have in there...
[18:01] <EdGardner-MGT> little over halfway to the cap
[18:01] <Kahn> lol same here inq
[18:01] <Kahn> 6 months to level 29
[18:01] <EdGardner-MGT> I believe there is endgame content, but people do the story related stuff once
[18:01] * SSX-Anubis has taken his time to get to lvl 45 in WoW, much to the annoyance of those who didn't want me sticking at 30 wasting time in wsg ;)
[18:01] <SSX-Anubis> story related stuff like quests are not replayable I believe
[18:01] <EdGardner-MGT> so "endgame" only happens once
[18:02] <SSX-Anubis> that itself adds that much more finality to it
[18:02] <EdGardner-MGT> there is level cap content for the 75 players, i hear it's alot like MC for WoW
[18:02] <EdGardner-MGT> with all the level 75's camping what is called "Skye"
[18:02] <EdGardner-MGT> if I ever get to that point, i will probably stop playing
[18:02] <SSX-Anubis> to be honest I dont really see the appeal of MC
[18:02] <BlackDove> Items
[18:02] <Kahn> woot
[18:02] <BlackDove> Ne?
[18:02] <EdGardner-MGT> oh I see the appeal
[18:03] <SSX-Anubis> run through it until you beat it, yes. Go back every week to pray for a rare drop? no
[18:03] <SSX-Anubis> It would get boring
[18:03] <EdGardner-MGT> loot and seeing a well oiled team in action
[18:03] <BlackDove> That praying helps in PvP though, doesn't it?
[18:03] <BlackDove> The items that drop there.
[18:03] <SSX-Anubis> it can, but by upping your pvp rank you can get elite ger too
[18:03] <SSX-Anubis> gear*
[18:03] <Kahn> BG ruined PvP, no epic raids anymore
[18:03] <BlackDove> I doubt it's the same stuff.
[18:04] <EdGardner-MGT> meh
[18:04] <SSX-Anubis> and pvp is a lot less repetetive when the other team uses different tactics
[18:04] <SSX-Anubis> whereas MC is just kill mob after mob after mob
[18:04] <SSX-Anubis> as I said, I dont see the appeal ;)

But I might actually do it. -.-

SSX-WoW have a "You must be a member to join the guild" policy strictly enforced one or two people weren't following that before recruitment was souly handled by me'n'MS.

And yes, Quiz is quite correct (it annoys me all to hell and it was even worse in NC because we had ingame forums ~~)
[17:44] <EdGardner-MGT> no, I expect it is ANY MMO

It's a pain in the rear and I continually pimp the forums.

It's our guild message of the day ffs :P
Our strategies for bosses and our events are organised there, if there are any important decisions that need to be made for the group, they're made there.

Unfortunately it's not helping branch out into other forums.
I think a few people have taken a peak, but not much more than that.
It's annoying but we continually work with it.

All I see is gryphy going overboard again ~~

You generalise too much.
You ain't even payin attention, there's people down there in IRC right now from your fabled "WoW Ppl who aren't old regs and don't talk to us" ~~

Sigh.. here goes then..
Seriously - something needs to be done
Since you took your break from WoW we have been trying to make things better for us all, i hope at least some people have noticed that and appreciate our efforts.
HEY! other forums exist too - at least meet the rest of the SSX!
We are forever encouraging people to use the forums and website more, that is one of the reasons why i MADE the website. To draw people out of the game towards our website/forums and interact with the rest of us all. We have the guild message of the day pointing to our website/forums..
You may have noticed the increase in WoW members on IRC recently as well, if they don't socialise with the rest of the SSX what are they doing there? They're all from WoW!.
They may not post outside of the WoW forum very often, or at all. But we cannot MAKE them, or force them to do that really. Isn't that a little unfair? "Post outside of the wow forum or i'll kick you" ? :|
If they want to they will do so in their own time, some have already started to.

Recruitment went to referrals between myself and QD and since then we have had no problems with new members recruited since that time. Meaning nobody in the past couple of weeks has been invited before both QD and I have given the green light. A few "bad eggs" that joined a while ago have either been kicked or they have left already.
Anyone else we feel shouldn't be with us will also get kicked.
Myself and QD spend a LOT of time talking to recruits as it is. We're becoming one of the biggest guilds on the server, and having to individually speak to each and evey person that asks to join, like lets say a 30min chat with each of em.. that is how much time we're already putting in to try improve our recruiting. I really do hope people appreciate that because it takes up a lot of our gametime and the only reason we're doing that is because we care, and we want to improve it. To even be replying to this rant thread kinda upsets me, because it makes me wonder why we are even bothering... :(
[17:50] <Kahn> they are letting every priest in because they need more for MC
No offence Kahn, and sorry for my language, but that statement is complete bullshit. We have 2 priests in the SSX for MC, Scorp and Riccko. Both have been with us since Neocron, riccko has been around ever since i have. Druid healers for MC, we have 1, Ryoko. He has been with us for months.
Where are all these other priests we're letting in for MC that you speak of Kahn? I'd love to meet them.

Me and QD don't recruit just anybody, just because we may need that class for MC. Although their class may help us a great deal, we don't do it. We never have and we never will. If we feel someone only wants to join us because we're doing MC, they don't get recruited simple as that. I've already turned down tons of people ingame just for that reason. I don't agree with it just as much as you don't, but please don't go saying myself and QD are inviting every priest in the guild so we can do MC cos it simply isn't true.

The Rogue restirction that i put up - I did that because i felt it was fair on the rogue class, not to have them left out of guild activities just because we already have enough of their class, i felt it was in their best interest to warn them that endgame wise we don't need anymore of that class. I still warn rogues about it if they want to join us, but if they're a nice person and i feel they'd be good for us we wouldn't turn them away. We just aren't actively recruiting them.
At the moment we aren't recruiting ANYBODY. I put a stop to it because i felt we needed a break from it.

I'm doing my best to improve things, it ain't gonna get better over night, i'm not god - it will take time. But i believe things have slowly started to improve within the past couple of weeks and hopefully they will continue to do so.
As i said, i'm doing my best and thats all i can do. But rants on the forums and IRC about it don't really help after i have already been trying to improve things for us and they have already started to.
I'll be honest, its like a slap in the face tbh. :(

I'll have to agree that as much as our opinions may vary, we indeed have been giving you way too much flak over this.

Though, the fact that we don't know if it's just cause, is... worrying.

In the end, all we'll be able to do is leave it up to you to run it to the best of your abilities. However, 100 unheard souls, and two pissed off old timers, will get my attention.

some of the issues brought up by gryphon were brought up by myself and quite a few other ssx members at the time. Since then however qd and ms have taken it upon themselves to handle it themselves (recruiting that is) and i cant honeslty fault them what so ever, what members have come into the ssx since qd and ms took over recruiting have been nice helpful mature members.

That's not enough though Ava, we need to improve some of the members we currently have as well.
Although the troublemakers are gone, a few things could use fine tweaking.

everything else seems fine now imo ;|

Now lets be serious.

As one of the f**king ignorant new wow ppl, maybe my voice has some weight --> yes it talks!

Ssx is a gaming community, not only a guild... thats a statement, but slightly wishful thinking too (at least imo). I can tell you exactly what ssx is to me... its the ppl i play with, the ppl i learned to know over the past few months & those i can call friends now with all ups & downs. You cant expect to log on & *learn to know* everyone right away. A relationship simply doesnt work this way... it gets stronger with the things we share, those experiences that we live through together & thus the community grows in the first place IN the game & tbh we have a great community in wow. ... just a thought, but maybe the base of ssx is so close-knit because you all shared the experience in ssc/nc? ofc!

Gryph, the things you complain about are your own fault imo, you simply lost/never got in touch with the *new* ppl, because you cant log on now & then... noone even close to your lvrange except occasional alts... & expect that everyone jumps you to build a relationship asap. Until i havent played with you (& even if it is only a f**king avatar) your just a voice in a frikkin chatroom & to me those are the most unpersonal/unindividual & estranged places on earth. If you had struggled & worked with most of us ingame until the point where we are now... i can assure you, you would know EVERYONE INVOLVED & thus MOST of our current wow community by person! Infact im absolutely sure out of the larger guilds on our server we have the most close-knit & friendly environment of all.

During my life in wow i even learned second hand knowledge & stories of the ssx before my time & read occasional posts of ssx members not playing wow at all. It is a pleasure to see quiz, BD or kahn make a drive by in the wow forum & more often than not they brought with their unbiased view certain things with a short statement right to the point, as they would speak right out of my deepest belives. But what i have read lately, especially about the rogue restriction & now the irc paste here is absolute bs. You guys just went way over board.

BD will hate me for this quote, BUT: you cant judge certain aspects of the wow community as long as your not involved.
*first hand knowledge of how we handle things in wow* > *bitching about certain baserules*

QD, MS, Ava, Mip, Scorp, SS... there are plenty of your *longtime* regs moderating the wow grp along with some of the f**king ignorant new ppl & we discuss every darn step we take to sustain a friendly environment where we like playing the game. Sometimes it works & sometimes it doesnt. What else can you ask?

The open recruitment is on STOP...
QD & MS talk personally to every applicant...
Can we tell out of this measures if someone is suited for our precious grp (yes thats elitist as well) ... no we cant! Time will tell & we only can see how it will progress.

& the discussion about whats so appealing in the endgame content... read MC:

PvP is boring, its a zergfest & everyone is on his own most of the time... basically it gets boring after a few minutes for most ppl.

MC on the other hand... we go there as a guild, its the only place in wow thats actually a challenge & if you prevail there its because you had a great teamwork & everyone pulled together to accomplish this. ... drops are sweet too, but ofc... they are the only possibility to advance further & advancement, even if it goes slow, is needed... or you would stop playing (dont tell me you wouldnt).

last but not least:
i found this thread quite embassaring... because it offends me in the first place & does in no means reflect my own experience. bah!

*Pokes*

Few things -

@ Sofia - the fact you read and replied with something more than a "fine I read it" Post kind of makes you one of the people that gives a crap by default :P So anything I said there doesn't really count for you, see, you showed you care by the lengthy response.

@ Dan - DUDE! I'm not slapping you in the face - seems to me running the WoW forum and coordinating the guild is a full time job and you should feel insulted just because I'm whining! I'm whining in general :D

I'm sticking by my statement - But I think Elaboration is required - it was a tired, angry, my day sucked rant and I was nitpicking, my bad. BUT I believe every word IO said - okay - elaboration.

This may just be me, but what does it say at the top of the forums - at the head of the site, well - pretty much all over the place - FREINDSHIP!

Now - that means getting to know each other, and it seems to me that no one is. Okay - so my anger is mainly directed at some of the ignoramii in the WoW guild, but friendship IS NOT AN EPIC WEAPON! okay?

I'm not trying to sound militant and make it out that youo have to be totally eating sleeping and thinking exiles - but it just seems that for all our members - we have very few that interact with each other. The rest just seem like they can't be bothered - and thats from EVERY GAME/FORUM etc! it doesn't take long to drop by in the forums and say ello - even if that's all.

Or even stop into IRC, even if it's just a few minutes, I'm pretty sure even if people know no one there - they'll be able to join in on whatever we're talking and ranting about! They all have opinions. (even if some of those are along the lines of Gryphon is an asshole  )

kidding

Anyhow - thats what my rant is in general.

It just seems like there's so many people who are just not bothering with the social side and it's not upsetting, it's frustrating - they're missing out on loads!

Well okay maybe not loads, but still. pfleh. it makes sense in my head - I'm going to pick up my Pay - if i get the time today - i'll nod into WoW for a bit if I'm still welcome. Oh - and if I can make more sense when I get back - I'll edit this.

Hi.

I'm one of the new guys. WoW is the first MMO i've played, In fact my online gaming has been close to zero (if one doesn't count Blood Bowl and a few weeks of Go on msn).

I've read the forum since I joined back in february, but my lack of online gaming experience has stoped me from posting. I don't like to make an ass of myself.

I joined the IRC a few weeks back, and the discusions there made me download FS2 to try it out.

The reason I play any game is to have fun, I am not a Loot thristy powergamer, and if it wasn't for the community (those who actually chat in /g) and forum. I would probably have stoped playing WoW back in May.
I try to keep my characters (main and alts) separated. Curnir has certain way of announcing his presence and so does Dalectus and Samulor.
Of course rolplaying more or less goes out the window when I enter an instance. Anyway I just hope most people don't find me too annoying :p
Curnir the Terrible Human level 60 Mage
Ariavel the Puny level 60 Druid
Dalectus the Pure Human level 60 Shadow Priest
Samulor the Sneaky Dwarf level 50? Hunter
Gendry the Bastard warrior 18?
Durinlon the Evil Dwarf level 17 Priest

All power to the WoW division! I haven't met many of the people from the WoW division yet but TBH its probably more my fault than theirs, as I spend most my time in AO so unless they stop by #SSX-AO I'll not see them.....

To judge them by how much they expand outside their game would be to judge people like me as well... some of us are just quieter, keep themselves to themselves and play our games, and as has already been said MMORPGs do take up alot of your time just playing... add to that forum/irc time onto that and RL starts to take a hit, its a balance and everyone achieves it in their own way. For some its easier than others.

I remember a time when NC was the biggest division and there was NC players who had never graced the SSC forum, and I even remember the same for FS2 back in the day.. Let people make an impact in the game they play and settle in to their new home... when they want to come visit and say hi, we'll be here, that to me is what the "friendship" part of our ideals means not frog marching people to their keyboards and forcing them to say hello.

I will concede though that a hello is nice now and then, but it really comes down to whether the person wants to or has anything to say. Let them enjoy WoW, dont p*ss them off with threads like this and then they'll be more likely to come stop by.

I do see where you're coming from mate with some of the new members we've had, the kinda people that don't socialise much in /g but they always ask for help but never give it. We've kicked a few of these already cos we're

Since QD and I went referrals with recruits i think we've had some really nice people join us, they're all nice people, they socialise on guild chat a lot, they help guildies out.. all that kinda stuff and because of it people already know them by quite well just like people do with us long stayers. Thats what i like to see and we're trying to get it more that way.
However, like QD has said there are still a few previous joined members that could do with some "tweaking". Some of them have been warned already and if they carry on they will be shown the door. I won't name any names but they'll know who they are.
Apart from the odd member we have with us i do think most of the other issues we had recently have been sorted and are a lot better now.

I will say this though. To all of the people that may have some concerns with somethings with the WoW group. Give us your imput on what we could do to improve things more, that would be more helpful to us, and we can work on that. As i've already said, we're trying our best to improve things with the group but if you guys have any other ideas that may help us then please go ahead and say. :)

Hey all of you, just adding my 2 euro-...

I don't play any other online game than WoW simply because I'm sitting behind a Mac all day long, and there's not a great deal of choice on this platform. I can't be bothered to join IRC either firstly because I don't have a client handy and secondly because I can be reached from within WoW. I don't know anyone from SSX who isn't in WoW because it doesn't impact me, for better or worse, and unless you start playing WoW I probably won't ever play alongside you.

At the same time I'm a pretty active player and I'm probably a pretty decent gamer too. I talk to people ingame and help em and all of that, but in the end it's just a game, and when I'm not logged in it's probably with good reason, e. g. I have other stuff to do... So please forgive me if I give my dedication to the guild in the game more than SSX on the web.

Thanks for reading, see ya in-game...

I gotta agree with sam.freak on this one........I only play Guild Wars cuz its free...I will never be playing any game that requires pay for play. Its just a lame thing imo so I don't do it. But same thing with sam.....if you come by GW I'm always around helping ppl if I can. Since it's free though, ppl have stopped playing and went on to other things. The attitude is that its free and I can come back to it whenever I feel bored. That kind of attitude is whats kinda killing GW atm. If anyone wants to play alongside me in GW ppl are welcome to do so but I probably won't know anyone else outside of GW. IRC included since the bloody thing won't work for me. (tried many times)

The problme, I think, is we as a group are a bit gunshy of having the same bugaboos that drove us out of the SSC rear their heads here.

I will restate, for the record, that MS and QD have been doing a good job.

From my aerial view of it (in part because it seems difficult to join a euro server as an american, and in part because I have time for only one MMO, and I am still enjoying FF), things have improved in the last few weeks since the little drama that inspired the recruitment hold.

That I can see that improvement without being in game implies the improvement is pretty dramatic.

Is it perfect? No, nothing ever is.

I'll just side-track for a moment here.

No.

This is universal to every situation. I take my information from you. If you give me information I don't like, the issue will be treated accordingly.

Never tell me "You have to be there". I don't. All I have to do is ask questions and observe what members have to say from their own first hand experience. Which I do.

And this is not up for debate. Ever.

Edit: Naturally, I'm not an idiot though. Of course there are some things that I can't participate in, because I haven't been there. That's a given with almost any game.

But you will not see me ever giving a comment in a situation like that.

Good. Anything else is dishonest. I appreciate not having to guess at your feelings :)

We have our observations, part of my job is to help eliminate misconceptions. What Kahn posted from IRC is, I think, part of that dialog. It is, in some ways, the only way some of us can understand. So don;t take too much of what you see in that IRC log as the final word. It's not. It's a very raw conversation which can be taken out of context and seem perhaps, brutal.

I disagree with Kahn's assessment of it, I don't think it's horribly broken, because, well, I see the progress.

As for BD's "edict" it's true, we've a particular aversion to the "you can't know, you weren't there" statements. There are often common themes to all online interactions, it is from these themes that we draw some conclusions, so, while we may not know a specific thing, some generalizations can be made, and they are often accurate. Let's just say that they are accurate more often than not (they usually prompt a driveby post as a matter of fact ;)). An outside view is healthy, so long as folks are open to it, then we can have a dialog, and something positive can come of it. Another part of my job is to make sure that the outside view is healthy, not meddlesome.

Fine line in there somewhere.

I am going to move this to Members. Lest any non-members be tempted to respond.

You not looked at Lore then? A game made by some of the SSX members in Max Gaming Technologies. It's available for Windows, Mac and Linux, it's a First Person Shooter mech game, like a cross between tribes and mechwarrior. You pay for it once, and once only - no continuing fees.

You should download the demo and have a butcher's :)

As for this current issue - if something is brought to the attention on the membership, it is not for any game group to say "it's none of your business" or "you can't understand". If it affects The SSX, it's all our business.
