Titan was not banned

Post by Inquisitor »

I am posting this here, because I will not break my promise and post on the SSC forums, and I am getting really damned tired of being accused of something I did not do.

Titan's account was not banned. I don't know what was wrong with it, but it should work now.

If it had been banned, there woulda been a big sticky somewhere saying "This guy is banned because he is a prick."

It would also, I believe, have said when he logged in: "You cannot post, you are banned" or words to that effect.

For the record, no, Titan, Ender and Risen are not welcome, but never in the last 10 years have I premptively banned anyone simply because I do not like them. As Risen said, I came close to doing just that a year ago at the SSC to him, and that was after months of arguments and days of deliberation. And then I didn't do it. I chose NOT to do it. It was the WRONG thing for me to do. It wasn't because I was caught, or any such dramatics, I didn't do it because *I* would have been a hypocrite, and it would have been wrong, and I cannot live with myself comfortably when I do the wrong thing. That seems to get overlooked in the various retellings. And then I quit.

There is also some hint that this (the SSX) was all planned, all prepared.

It wasn't. That some people can't fathom technical marvels being accomplished in 24 hours by talented people, it MUST be a conspiracy.

It went like this: I quit, about 50 peoplequit too, we bitched and moaned in IRC, and then we had a website up in hours. It wasn't up for weeks, it wasn't up for days. It was up for hours.

Also, there have been a few posts on the SSX forums that have indeed been deragatory. It doesn't do any good to delete them, it's against personal policy anyway, what does happen is the person posting USUALLY gets a bit of a talking to, a pleas to not intentionally irritate people, no matter how right we feel we are. The last thing I want is more wild accusations about defamation, or veiled (or not so veiled) threats of legal action, or whatever the flavor of the day is for retaliation. I have asked this publically of the SSX before, I ask it again now, lets keep the peace, please. Restrain the bitching to IRC, I'll happily bitch with you. That's the place for it.

Titan's account should work now. Not that I want him posting, but I can only be painted as a meglomaniacal, nazi, passive aggressive admin so many times before it gets on my nerves. So I looked, made sure it wasn't banned or deactivated, and message'd him the password. I do not like him. I think he's a jackass. I think he's unfun to assoaciate with. I hold the same opinion of Ender, playing games with him felt like splinters under my fingernails.

But they are not banned. Precisely because I wanted to avoid the quality of bitching and accusation that they are currently doing.

We know Titan didn't have his account banned or deactivated, infact i don't think anyone has ever had their account banned/deactivated on the SSX forums yet, right?
I felt like replying on there myself but i didn't cos it would only add fuel to the fire....

So just ignore em if thats what they wanna think Ed, at the end of the day they're gonna think what they like whether its the truth or not. We all know his account wasn't banned. :)

my 2 cents.

No one has, Kuras got a blanket IP ban from every site I had access to at the time, but he represented a material risk to my assets.

That's it.

Credit me with a little consistency in action.

Naturally, reading Inquisitor's first post prompted me to head over to the SSC forums to see what was up. Finding the thread that brought this on wasn't that difficult, as we've a habit of making some long ones.

Words had been said that didn't make me too happy. I had a few points of contention with some of the veteran SSC membership, but note that I've not posted a reply to that thread, nor do I intend to. The people I disagree with now are the same people I disagreed with last year. They're the same people who were so passionate about same things I am still so catagorically against, that I felt I could not (and cannot) be in the same organization as them. That's why I'm here and not there. Several of us seem to have temporarily forgotten that the issue of the SSC and SSX's past transforms some members on both sides into beehives of fury and passion. What happens when you fling two beehives together?

Hell, I had built up a nice head of steam myself and was ready to stoke the fires of the old flamewars after reading some parts of that thread. I didn't do it though. I'm not a part of the SSC anymore. They are free to act and post as they feel fit. I'm not in a position to argue with them, nor do I want to be in a position to argue with them. I was there for ages, arguing and debating about something or another on a semi-annual basis. Just to remind those of you who were part of the original split, the bitching and moaning was something that came up each year. I was wondering how our one year anniversary away from the SSC would go, and thus far, I'm not impressed.

I know I'm about a week late, relative to the thread over at the SSC, but I make my plea nonetheless. Don't participate in the same old crap, just because the opportunity arises. The SSX isn't a fair maiden that needs her honor defended. Most of us fall somewhere between obnoxious teenagers and dirty, old men. Anyone interested in hearing our side will come to us, just as anyone who wants to hear the SSC's version of the history will go to them. There's no need for us to horn in and start proofreading what they write. There's no need for most of us to be on their forums in the first place. If you're really interested in avoiding participation in the same old nonsense, that's great, but you're working against yourself if you throw yourself into threads of that nature. You're working against yourself by checking the SSC forums on any kind of basis. E-mail is for keeping in touch with friends. Forums are for keeping in touch with the organization. You can't check the SSC forums without dealing with the luggage of the shared SSC-SSX past.

We can give (and do) you a lot more credit than just consistency in action.

I think anyone pertinent to the conversation can attest to your patience. We thank you for it.

Everybody has a point where patience runs out. We understood that, and we supported you on it, primarily because we had simular concerns.

I've never doubted once. :)

We've done pretty well, considering.

I suppose it's fitting to mark the anniversary like this :/

Like I've said previously, it's definately time to say that the past is the past. There's no point going over old recriminations.

Both SSX and SSC will have new people showing up and saying "hey! I found the SS.. and they look just like us! What's with that?", so it's best to have a relationship with each other that is at least on civil talking terms. What's the alternative? Keep bitching and sniping at each other? Keep rehashing the same arguments?

If you have something against an individual in the SSC, keep it that way - individual. I'd hope they'll do the same. There's no need to bring everyone else into it (not directed at anyone in particular).

If I bump into an SSC member in an online game, I'll be treating them with friendship. They are part of our history. Let's not look on it like a past transgression.

I'm not suggesting that we forget or disavow our past with the SSC, esd. I'm suggesting we leave it in the past, where it belongs, and stay off of their forums. Also, explaining the history to someone who asks on our forums is far different from going to the SSC forums and disputing their explanation. The former is courteously setting things straight for a newbie, while the latter is asking for trouble.

Flame War? I guess I need to look up the definition of flame war again because I apparently wasn't seeing one.

Ed I simply don't get where you are coming from in your post. You seem unnecessarily hostile where hostility isn't needed. Meh.

From all that I read, it was simply one side explaining why they think something happened and the other side explaining their point of view. And thus far it was all done pretty respectfully.

It's clear both sides don't agree on why things happen the way they did so there really isn't a point on discussing this issue further, because we are already seeing hostilities rearing their ugly heads. So let us go back to our respective corners and go play games or something.

Edited to correct spelling errors.

Titan's account works again, Titan now knows his account works again, everyone else now knows it as well.

This has served it's purpose.

Going to move it to members, where it belonged to begin with, people can still see it, but the discussion is our problem. Someone who was a mod besides me shoulda slapped my wrist.

I also need a slap.
And I wish to formally apologize.
In no way shape or form do my ramblings represent us as a whole. Its been a over a year now and when this topic gets brought up, I tend to slip a lil. I 'again' posted my 'feelings' on the matter.... Sorry for that.
Well a short glib of my feelings at least..... as posting on the entire topic would take pages.

In threads gone past, I have restrained from all questions about how we came to be and left it to those with more candor and can keep things less personal.

When I posted my feelings on the topic of wether or not I was 'SSC' anymore I answered the aesthetic question and then went on to ramble about the heart of what I feel 'we' are.
If a city is destroyed and the majority of its inhabitants leave, take with them that which they hold to be sacred and go on to build a new city in a new location. Are they not the people of old and simply starting a new?

Rambling again I see. I am sorry.
Yes my post was stronger then it should have been. I would delete my old post except it is now immortalized by being quoted... out of context I might add. As I was (after the disclaimer) ranting on the heart of standing for what the SSC used to be in days gone past and what we do now.

Also, they stated we are often sladering them and it was asked show them where. So my post (which was created AFTER there thread and that question was asked mind you) was partially quoted. I did not intentionaly add what I did to support there generalizing of us and am sorry for doing so.

I posted after I read there huge flowery posts on how things went down and of course felt that it was only slightly truthful and mostly biased lies or half truths. That by no means justifies my post, nor does it give me the right to post my 'biased' opinion on the matter. It does not help anything, nor should I keep stooping down to wrestle in the mud about it.

I did however obstain from posting on there forums about this......

Sorry again, its been awhile, I slip from time to time on the matter.... the scar still burns I guess.....

Titan is my love doll. No touch.

Seriously, who gives a damn about his account? Should've just ignored it.
