A new SSX website is born

Post by requiemdreamer »

Just wanted to let everyone know that all of us over on the US-Mannoroth server have just gotten our own website and forums up and running, along with our very own Ventrilo server :D
Trixster has been working very hard at getting the website up and running and please keep in mind it will most likely undergo many changes in the near future.

http://ssx.nrgservers.net

btw, congrats to you all with Razorgore! We hope that we will be able to down him soon. Have only tried it a few times.

Yeah, why didn't you guys ask for space here??

Had I realized it was a problem, I would have made new forum categories...

I just thought you guys were inactive.

Any reason it CAN'T be on our servers?

It will be very hard to know who is really SSX if we have other forums somewhere.

I love people takign the intiative, and it looks great, I am just thoroughly confused...

:weird: ehhh. Why??

These forums are for us all, which ever server we play on, where ever we are from, which ever game we play.. Theres no need to go making forums else where. If you weren't happy with Bladefist and Mannoroth sharing the WoW forum mebbe a seperate forum could be made for you guys (i must admit, this forum is quite busy atm). All you have to do is ask. :)

I could easily have set some of you up with the ability to post news on our WoW site, i posted US news once or twice before but since we never really SAW any news from the US group on the forums.. the website is pretty much all Bladefist news.
I even added Mannoroth to the banner, allied guilds, members list page..so we could share the website as best we could..
Fair enough if you wanted to start your own WoW website just for your server, i'm sure KJ could have set you up with the details to have that here on the SSX servers.

I just don't understand why you go make a seperate forums and website when we have them right here already? Have a chat with Quiz & KJ and about getting your own website space and seperate forum on here, "these" are the SSX Servers. Its not right you being in a completely different place.

Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Ok, first thing guys, req was just trying to share in the excitement of growth for our group. As things have gone we've sat mostly watching in here and being happy for the accomplishments bladefist has gotten. In the beginning when I got on, there wasn't much activity but we've been growing recently. Still it has been tough for anything for our server because it gets buried by whats going on with bladefist... look at the posts we've done, you'll notice we have to put Mannoroth in the title just to find them. Our original idea was to ask for a separate forum so we could find our stuff, the website was started by a whirlwind of things that happened very quickly.
I'd like to make very clear, the separate website was NOT something we went out looking for. It came with our purchase of a ventrillo server, free webspace with purchase of the server. The site isn't finished yet by any means, we've got a lot of things we've all pitched in of ideas we're going to do with it. It wasn't a "lets get away from them - run run", it was more of a "hey we got this free, what can we do with it". It made things simple so we didn't have to request a ton of changes here to make ourselves visible to Mannoroth people we send up here. There's not a malicious bone in the body of any Mannoroth SSX member, (maybe a few dirty minds though). We didn't stop to think about it causing an issue or whatnot, thought ya'll would be happy for us honestly (otherwise nobody would have shared it i'm sure).
I do however see the point in not splitting it up since its been brought up now, never thought about it that way, just figured I'd be visiting two sites now. I've already e-mailed KJ this morning to try and set some time aside to talk about ways to work it out as there are several possibilities. We went for the one that was free and didn't require us to have to ask someone else to do stuff for us all the time. There are ways to link the two together or whatever needs to be done... Hopefully we'll see him online tonight or he'll be able to take a few minutes at least to get onto our ventrillo server (lot easier to talk about it than give a bunch of long huge messages like this one).
I'm at work and the ventrillo information is on my PC at home so I can't give it to you here because I don't have it...

Just got home

Post by Magdalena »

I just got home and have sent our Ventrillo information to Killjoy and Inquisitor so they can try and meet up with us to talk about this. Its in your PM box, I won't be posting it up here because I can't find anything that seems to be a members only section and we don't want to have to password it if we can avoid it, so far have managed not to get the random people off the streets walking in there so we haven't had to password it.

WoW Tradecraft is members only, that is, only SSX members can see it. If you are on the list in the General forum, you can see Tradecraft.

I have to run to the vet, not sure when I will be back, easiest way to get with me is IRC during the day, FYI.

Unfortunately I was up all last night working out the bugs in a program, and consequently I am very tired. So I won't be able to meet with anyone tonight, atleast about this issue.. Lets set a time for tomorrow to meet up.

But first let me clear up a few things.. WE are not upset with your endeavors (although admittedly some of the posts here would indicate otherwise). It is more an issue of surprise. As I told RD last night.. We want everything to work out for everyone, and we want to promote your guys' successes. Although uptil now, you have to admit that you guys have been very quiet.

Our goal overall is to keep the SSX united. To accomplish that we have done things in whatever ways possible to support and help groups grow and accomplish those things that they want to do. From the emails I have perused on this subject, there seems to be the idea that you have to do things the way EU does, and that is not true.

So lets meet tomorrow and help get everyone on the same page. :thumb:

PS I did get the Vent info, but lack of a mic will be a problem for me to use it. So lets all meet on IRC, if you need a client use the one on the SSX site IRC Chat Client, so now all we need is a time.

I can't stress enough this is not a beatdown session, troublemaker thing, or whatever. We want to help you succeed as well as the SSX continue to succeed. The meeting is nothing more than to work out the details of us all meeting our goals. :)

Thanks for the response Killjoy, hope you're getting yourself some good rest tonight. Yeah, some of these posts kinda got a couple of people really worried as it does appear people were quite perterbed at the thought of this, and I understand it's quite difficult for them to see where we're coming from as they know everyone on this sight and are getting to play with them or have in the past. A very large portion of the family we've gathered in Mannoroth have not (myself included). I've tried posting on a couple of topics here but always somehow feel like an outsider, and this is the feeling of a lot of us. Its not that we dislike anyone here, we just don't have the repore that we do with the group we're playing with and talking to all the time.
We can actually have a chat talk on the ventrillo server so you don't need a mic, but tomorrow night won't be a good night as we have a run scheduled with some new people we're just starting to work with and as main tank I kinda have to be in the game and trixster has to heal me or I'll kick his booty. If you're there between 7pm-8pm server time I can talk then before the run starts at 8pm.
As an addition, you should really at least get to where you can hear us on vent so you can see just how crazy the people you're online with really are.... wait, maybe you shouldn't... you might run away... especially when we start to sing the new made up songs...
Well, look forward to talking with you and glad to know we're not in the dog house...

We're here to do stuff, so, you're not asking anything that we aren't glad to do.

And if you feel like an outsider, well, we can fix that. You shouldn't. We can help ;)

Start using the forums here, tell us who needs mod privs, tell us what you need. Believe it or not, we're actually happy to help.

I don;t mind a website off our URL, I can even set up forwards so it gets there, and frankly, downloads SHOULD be off-server.

But the forums, you'll never feel like an "insider" if ya don't use em ;)

Talk at everyone tomorrow.

Jonis has a big fat "I told you things like this would happen" coming to him (once he gets to feeling better of course). Silly Wabbits
I wonder if Quiz or KJ remember this same thing happening with AC (waaaaay back in the day).
We had over 700 members in AC, only a dozen of us consistently posted on the SSC forums and we made a webbie seperate from the SSC servers  So believe it or not, some of us old school MMO'rs have been down this path before ;)

BTW fantastic job taking the intiative and making that site, it looks great :thumb:

On that same note, you have to expect a little "um what?" reactions.. because well..... You had webspace on the SSX servers for a WOW site already. You still do, hehe. No one on Mannoroth was taking the initiative to make a site, so MS took the initiative and built one for us all.
Also, you have always had forum space here, both a members only section (Tradecraft) and as many forums sections as you need. Someone had to simply say SOMETHING (anything at all would be great half the time).... hehe.

For the longest, the only way to find out what great adventure you guys had been on was to call Jonis and find out. I have heard some of the greatest stories and ALWAYS say, maaaaan I wish you would get folks to post on the forums and share those stories with everyone else in the SSX. Many of us sure would love to hear some of that great stuff....

I know how close you are on the server, it is a wonderful thing.
But how close would you have been, if you had never spoken to one another? Simply gathering on small occasions to do a MC run then parting ways? Would it feel like you are part of a home and be as close as you all are? Of course not.... it is the same here on the forums.

I have been stressing this for months with Jonis and seen a 'slight' increase of participation here. Which by itself, I deemed as a wonderful accomplishment for you guys, since you have been sooooo quiet in the past. Its like pulling teeth to get much of anyone to post here from Mannoroth

Hopefully this will be the turning point of us sharing in your grand future adventures.

Yeah I have done that a few time myself in the general forums. I will bring up a topic that was already brought up. Usually folks are cool about it and just a post a link to the old (already discussed) topic.

BTW I didn't know you were not on the list, bro. Will get that fixed soon as I get back from school, I have to head out to take an exam.

hmmm....what' to say.....didn't realize this started back in sept....and didn't noticed the great concerns amoungst everyone....

if i remember correctly, a month or so back, trix was asking me about getting a section for the mannoroth server...and we agreed that we should talk to KJ when he go on the mannaroth server.....since we all knew he would get on the mannaroth server from time to time to just chat with us.....cause i knew the newer members of our family from mannaroth server didn't have access to the members only sites to discuss on situations that came up.....

when we got vent, and it came with free webspace..i think that's when everyone on the mannaroth server decided to give it a try...it's not that we were breaking away from bladefist....it was only cause it was FREE....we paid for vent and with that came the free webspace...and we just didn't want it to go to waste....

i understand that mag, after reading the posts feels like people in the bladefist server was upset..that's my first reaction too....and i know you guys aren't.....

let's just find a common ground on this.....

:)

Well, we pay for this here, too, for everyone. That's the point of this multi-game group thing.

And this is how we are supposed to know what's going on in all our groups.

Anyone who is a member, pretty much can sponsor anyone to be a new member.

You post in the SSX Members list:

"Add Billy, me and Bobby sponsor him"

If we know who's here, we can keep the rolls up to date and make sure people have access. If we know who is in charge, we can make sure those folks have the tools they need to communicate with everyone. If you have a problem, you yell at me till I pay attention to it :)

Again, I had NO idea you guys had grown so large, it must have got swamped with all the bladefist stuff, had I know, I would have created these US specific forums alot sooner. My apologies.

You are SSX, this is the SSX.

The fix is simple, Killjoy and I can help you move whatever forum data here, you link to these forums from the nav bar on your website, and you tell us who should be on the member list. It shouldn't take more than a couple hours to get your entire roll sorted. and that's mostly someone like me making sure everyone is on the members list.

I don't mind if hte website is off URL, I'll put a forward or whatever on the main webserver and link it on the main website, so people can just type in www.shatteredstar.org/mannaroth or whatever you want it to be and it will forward automagically to the ngservers site. Large downloads SHOULD be hosted somewhere else, so that all makes sense.

If you're not here, you're just another MMO clan that happens to have our name though. For what it's worth, this is part of our indentity as a group.

It's beyond Bladefist, the SSX is more than just WoW.

I finally have time and have installed Ventrillo.

I know one reason most of us Mannoroth folk feel apart from the rest of SSX is that we don't get the chance to actually play with you guys :( , leaving only the forums to get to know one another. Will look forward to perhaps joining up and adventuring in another game some day.

We will also be trying to get more of our newer members to register accounts on here. There are still many more left to gather up :)
