Thinking characters and party playing
Hey guys,
I'm doing a bit of pre-game research to figure out what classes and professions the group may need and I would enjoy playing the most. I'm all for making a character specifically for playing with the group but I need to know how many people play together regularly and what their classes are.
Here's my dilemma: I've got from a day or two after Christmas to Jan 8th free to spend hours a day playing. If we have a group of folks who're online every day or two in that time I'll be happy to make a Priest and play party support. If we're not on as a group that much I'll make a character more suited to a flexible party structure or soloing.
Who's playing what and how often are you on/do you anticipate being on around christmas-Jan 8th?
Regards,
Phil

Tomorow marks the beginning of my winter break. I am probably on too often as it is, however, I will deffinitely be playing a lot more now that school work is out of the way. Our core group of players, averaging around 10 people, are on a lot, so you will always see many familiar faces in the game. Most of us have multiple high-level characters and so you will probably see us playing a lot of end-game content though we like help our lower-level members as much as possible. In general, you will almost never be the only one online
In response to your question about what class to choose, I will reiterate what Magdalena said in your previous thread. Choose a class that you will enjoy, that is the most important part. We aren't in too much of a shortage of any one class. One thing I would warn you with is that rogues are in large quantity, which makes finding groups more difficult. While groups are almost always short of warlocks and priests. Just let us know if you want more details about any specific classes.
Hope that helps

Also, in terms of professions, we can figure that out once you get a character made. We have every profession in the game covered at the moment, i believe, so it would mostly be your choice. You might even want to go with 2 gathering professions so you can sell your supplies and make a lot of money. We can always help you out with the crafting part.

hey.....rogues are always welcome..they freaking rock....just cause you don't have one req doesn't mean there are too many...hehehe...
anyhow, pick one that you would enjoy playing....everyone has multiple alts at all lvls...look at req...he has 2 charcs.....he has too many by my standards...hehehe....
as for professions, do one that u will enjoy lvling up.....i noticed myself that i don't like lvling up my professions and thus let my wife do it for me...hehehe....u can do what i do..or do what req does....
anyhow....first step is to get one...

We'll definitely try and help you out as much as we can. Unless you're an early morning person you'll likely never be alone on the server. The majority of us are online almost every night during the week unless something comes up in RL. Most of us though like Req said play mostly on our upper level characters in end-game content. Choosing a class really depends on what you like to do... dishing out major damage=hunter, rogue, warlock, mage... healing/support=priest, paladin, druid... tanking=warrior...
Its typically easier to find a group of people around your level if you're a priest, druid, or warlock as req said because there are fewer of them on the server. Priests of course are always needed and druids often end up filling the priest role of main healer. While priests don't have as tough a time soloing as they do in other mmorpg games, its still not an easy task. If you like going off on your own a lot but want the option to find a group easily a warlock could be a good pick as you will soon have a pet that can help take some of the damage from mobs off of you. Also though, it doesn't cost extra to create additional characters, so you can create one, play it for a little bit then create another and find out which is more fun to you that way. Rogues and hunters generally have the toughest time finding groups as there are a ton of them at every level. Here's a little breakdown of the classes for you:
Mage: Major dps spell attack, can create portals to the major towns, turn people into sheep, and create and hand out their own food/drinks. Stands a fairly good chance at finding a pick-up group fairly quickly for instances and tougher quests.
Warlock: Another magical dps, though often not as high in dps as the mage. Able to summon a pet either as a support for party, to tank when soloing, or seduce in pvp (oh and that one that always kills the priest). Also has the ability with assistance to summon other players in the party to wherever they are using a portal. Usually a high demand for pick-up groups for instances and tougher quests.
Hunter: Ranged dps mostly, tames a beast to keep by their side during battle. There is a vast variety of pets they are able to tame for dps, pvp, or tanking a mob to keep it at a distance. Quick and easy to solo, likely waiting in lines when it gets time to do instances etc. though. Also likely to be a very costly class to level. Lots of money spent buying arrows/ammunition and food for your pets. If choosing as your first character, there are a couple of things that will help in this cost: take up fishing/cooking as early as you can, and possibly look into mining/engineering for your ammunition and guns. (Or take up two of the pure profit trades skinning, mining, herbalism.)
Priest: Usually the groups main healer, also can have points in melting faces to help in soloing. Needed for almost every group instance. Often difficult to solo, but fairly easy to find a pick-up group for instances and tougher quests on most days.
Druid: Jack of all trades master of none. Has the ability to take many forms and perform many different actions within a group. They can tank, do melee damage, and heal. Usually end up as healers in a group due to lack of priests. Different forms ease the ability somewhat to solo mobs and since you can be used in multiple positions fairly easy to find a pick-up group for instances etc. as well.
Paladin: Support class, often called the priest in plate. Have several auras/buffs that come in very handy for the party in different situations. Ability to heal themselves and wear plate armor later. Highest survivability in a nuclear holocaust - usually one of the last ones standing if the party falls victim to the unfortunate wipes we all know and love. Can make a decent tank in a pinch if they know how to use their class abilities to best hold hate, can also make a fairly decent healer though usually not as efficient as a priest or druid. Fairly easy to solo with the ability to take damage pretty easily and heal yourself, though battles may take somewhat longer. Finding a pick-up group depends on the instance really, used a lot in end-game material when the party/raids start getting bigger, while some players not understanding the pallie's uses may not desire them as much in lower end instances that only allow 5 players.
Rogue: The be all end all in melee dps. Able to stealth around in order to sneak up behind its prey, and deals massive amounts of damage in a very short time. The quick damage is necessary though as they typically won't survive very many direct hits. Solo most areas fairly easily due to their ability to stealth their way out of most sticky situations, used in just about every instance, however usually seen seeking groups out in the cities due to overpopulation as they're a very popular class to pick.
Warrior: Usually the group's punching bag, built to take a hittin and keep on tickin. Can survive fairly well soloing but thrives mainly in a group or at the very least paired with someone that can either do major damage or assist with healing them when necessary. Takes a lot longer to take your life bar down, but when it hits 0 you still die. Not a very strond dps player, suited more for taking damage not dealing it. Needed in every single group for instances and tougher quests, usually won't have too much issue finding a group. Can be a very costly class, especially if you intend on soloing most of your character. Very equipment dependant and prepare to bring food and healing potions while on your solo adventures.
As req said, we've got characters that can make you just about anything you'll need but professions are something we can help you with after you've picked which character you'd like to play. I only listed certain professions for hunter because it can be fairly expensive, especially not having another upper level character to keep you in funds. (The costs get easier on it though once you reach a higher level as they're good characters to go farming with.) Look forward to seeing you online.

Sakuragi - While we don't have an overload of rogues in our guild, look around the server :P We won't always be able to play alts with him, he might wish to find a (dare I say it) pubby group while we're all in MC or BWL... it's not that rogues aren't welcome, just letting him know the truth that he might have a tougher time finding those groups as a rogue :P.
I like my rogue, but if it weren't for my hubby starting another character I can pair it up with I would have never dusted it off to play again past level 10. Then again i like most of my alts, just some more than others... and there are aspects of each of them I don't like as well.

Thanks guys. I don't mind playing a party support character as long as there's a party to play with. Most of the fun I get in games like this is by doing my part to get the party as far as I can. i used to play Amazons and Pally's a lot in Diablo for that reason.
You can expect to see a priest outa me.
What's the deal with Dwarven priests again? They've got some benefit in endgame stuff? Are there other benefits during the rest of the game that would make the race/class combo an obvious choice?

I believe the benefit is there throughout the game, but none of us knew about it until end-game content came around. They have a special ability called fear ward that is used a lot in end-game on tanks for boss battles such as onyxia to keep them from getting feared during the AoE fears on the group. This gives an extra boost to keeping the mob's focus on the tank instead of all the squishy people running around killing it. Its not a must but is definitely beneficial. (We've successfully defeated these bosses both with and without a dwarf priest.) Other than that, haven't seen much in racial traits that makes a very big difference when you get down to it. The rest all comes down to skill of playing your class to the best of its potential and learning what works and doesn't work with your play style.
