Ventrilo

Post by Bladesinger »

Ok, I've got the software and have installed it. I put <server address> in as the server and <port#> as the port. When I try to connect it has an issue. "Unable to resolve the specified servers DNS/Hostname. Is there something in setup that I missed?

Edited by Magdalena -- Nothing wrong, just blocked out address and port # to prevent randoms from popping on. One of the reasons we wanted a place only members could see is this is one of the things we didn't want posted outside of SSX and their Alliance groups. Guilds who post their vent info have a lot of problems with this, trying to keep so that we don't have to password ours.

I just checked and that 7 was a typo in the text. I do have it set to 3503. :sweat:

<0.0.0.0>

Maybe we should get the connection info back on the message of the day for the guild?

I had a great time listening to you all talk last night. Even though I was half a world away and by myself I felt like I was still playing with a group. :)

Anyone have an idea of why my comp crashes after having WoW and Vent open together for a while? It used to do the same thing with Diablo and Trillian.

Aren't you allowed to setup the vent server so only those who have been given accounts can log into the server? We did this for TS to prevent exactly the problems Mag has mentioned. It should be possible, if not, I would go with a server that can do that. :)

As far as I know, Ventrilo does not offer this feature like TeamSpeak does. However, most of us prefer many aspects of Ventrilo over TeamSpeak.

You are closer to most of us than Trixster and Magdalena are ;) So you are not as far away as you may think.

As for problems with your computer crashing, I would try what Lili said about getting more RAM. WoW is a really big memory hog. I couldn't believe the difference it made when I upgraded my RAM.
