Been thinking lately[long]

Post by requiemdreamer »

I hope everyone agrees with me when I say that there have been a lot of new faces in our guild within the last month or two. Firstly, I think that this is great. It seems to me that our "influence" is spreading a bit more in the Mannoroth server and we have more people joining our growing family. I want to use the word influence very carefully because I don't want people to get the wrong idea. By influence, I mean that more people are beginning to see the way we handle things and the camaraderie we all share with each other and they are looking at it with positive attitude. With this, however, I am seeing an upcoming change.

As we become larger, our ability to become as personal with each other as we have been becomes much harder. When we were very small we all knew each other very well, and it was much easier to help one-another and to remember what everyone needs help with. I feel that the small size of the guild played a very large role in my strong attachment to it. I like that we are growing and I hope that we still do. What I want for our new members is for each one of them to feel the same involvement with the rest of the guild that I felt when I joined the SSX.

Reading from Bladefist's threads I can see that there are people in their group feeling the same problems that I fear we will have. In an ideal situation, I would like for every lower lever and non-60 player in our guild to never have to join a group with PUGs. Even if that weren't possible, I would hope that they would never have to go without at least 1 or 2 other guildies. While the end-game content is a lot of fun, it will be even more fun when it is shared with more of our members.

I am not suggesting we end our MC raids with STNY or Archons. I know that I, personally, miss playing the lower-end raids and groups that we had. i.e. going to BRD almost every night, questing together, etc. I propose that we keep the focus of our "recruiting" to the non-60 players so we can ensure that our lower lever members can have others to quest with. (I know that Tuck and I were very lucky to have started off the game together as to have to opportunity to play together all the time--and of course, racing each-other to lvl 60(Tuck won). I also propose that our level 60 players take initiative and play an active role in making sure that everyone in the guild is involved. Maybe slow down on the PVP-craze we have all been on(I am guilty too). Dust off some of the lower lvl alts, if you have any left that aren't 60 already (...sakuragi  ) and quest with one-another.

As for the non-60 members, take an active part also. Chat with us Ventrilo, let us know what instance and quests you are doing, and things that you might need help with. Every one of us is very willing to help you, we sometimes just forget about it if people are quiet in G-chat or Vent. Tell jokes, laugh with us, join in on everyone picking on me(I promise it's fun).

Once again, these are just things that I have been thinking lately, and are purely just suggestions on my part. Well, my lunch break is over and it's time for me to get crackin' again. I might have more to add on later possibly after my 14-hour work day today. I hope maybe some of you will post any of your thoughts on this as well. Will see you all in-game soon! :thumb:

Thank you. I got lucky and found a partner that works well with me, and vice versa, who's since joined the SSX, Aedin. Even so it's been somewhat tough being something of the odd man out at 1/3 of the level of the rest of the guild. I've really appreciated the occasional aid from the rest of you when it comes.

I got this game and made the character I did specifically to play with the SSX and I've spent (by far) more time playing in PUGs or soloing than I have with gaming you. Vent's a mixed blessing too. I get to chat with and get to know the group, but 90% of the time I end up listening to stuff I can't participate in.

I don't mean to be whiny or sound ungrateful for what help I've received. It's not that at all. I'm just feeling like the odd man out and useless.

Phil

Great post req. Definitely something we need to keep conscious of always. It is a lot easier to correct and keep the spirit if we start now and don't wait until we have those same problems later on.

To the non-60s, please don't be afraid to speak up, promise we won't bite too hard. I know the ones I've had the better opportunity to get to know have been talking on vent and in chat, chances are if you're quiet we won't know you're there! I also understand though that it is really tough coming into a new group of people though. I was lucky as well since I had Trix with me from day 1. Then, somewhere in our 20s we met up with lili and sakuragi.

My first suggestion to those non 60s is find 1-2 people at your level that you enjoy hanging out with and are usually on when you are. If you hear the rest of us going into pvp games and need help with something, let us know... make sure we hear you. I for one am usually tagging along in pvp out of boredom and can certainly go without a round or two, its not something I really enjoy.

This was also part of the idea on farming the aq items... puts us in various zones with those who are not level 60 and readily available to help them out when they need it, but doing something too. If you're leveling skinning, let us know too... we'll be looking to collect a lot of light, medium, and thick leather up for turn-ins. Walk through, help you kill stuff and leave the bodies lieing around for you to skin.

Whether or not you can help on stuff like this isn't dependant on your character's level, there are things at all levels.

I'm willing to help anytime I'm not in an instance, and if I'm not needed in some of the instances(IE EStrat - if there's another warrior on) I can help then too.

I may not have a character at your level, but am willing to help with my character any time. There is only one instance I refuse to go back to, and that is Sunken Temple. (I skipped it even on my main character after going there once.) It isn't really a necessary one anyway though as there are alternatives at that point.

Will be working an alt that is currently in the low 20s soon, so there will be that one wondering about... still debating on whether to take my rogue or lock with that group...

Well I am willing to help out also. I would like to say though unless you want a 60 going with you everywhere I only have 2 lvl 17 alts.... You would be helping me more than I would be helping you on some of it. :smack:

I really need to work on them more... But I am working hard on my AV rep for my "epic mount  ".

P.S. "You" = anyone without a lvl 60

I joined SSX back in August/September of last year. The thing I found most attractive about the guild was its true "family guild" nature. I've been gaming in MMORPGS since 1994. I've joined many guilds and followed many from server to server, game to game during the past 11 years. In that time, in all those guilds, I didn't always feel like I was a part of a family like those guilds claimed. I feel it here. I disappeared for 5 weeks due to both illness and schoolwork, but every day I would receive an IM or an email from many of you asking how I was feeling or how my exams were going. This family extends out of gaming. It really does.

Now Ill get to my point. I've also been thinking about this topic since my return to the game. I know I'm still fairly new to the family, but I'd like to share how I feel anyway. Every time I see someone join the guild, I get mixed feelings. I love having the opportunity to befriend a new member, but also fear the possibility of the guild losing its familial feeling. This goes for every group, guild, or experience I've been a part of. If we are going to expand our numbers, which I know me must and many of us want to do, we need to do this slowly. Everyone get to know the character first (before inviting to guild?), maybe having he or she participate in a guild raid run and then the guild discussing the experience on the forums. I know in the past week I've had to get to know a couple of new names (and now voices). I want each of them to be able to get to know all of us, and us with them in return before we add more into our lovely bunch.

I know some of us were talking about leveling up our low level alts. I personally like the idea of taking a few days during the week for our alts to get acquainted with all of our non-60 members. Like Sean said, I too have more fun running the lower level instances. I'm happy with whatever I do, as long as it's with an SSX family member. Anyone else want to give up a few nights a week on our alts? We would still run our AB domination, Stratholme, and MC of course, but just not every time we sign into the game.

I'm in the mood for some family time! Who's with me? :D

Family

Post by RagingDeath »

Thats basically the reason why you dont see me on that much is the word FAMILY. I treat each and everyone of you guys like i do with my family and I see the same love and respect form each and every member. Our guild will continue to thrive on this factor even with the occasional new person joining. Don't be worried about getting a bad seed or two, with our awesome charisma and joy we can certainly turn that around. I think we should choose one of our 2 raid days wed or thurs to do noob runs with our alts or help the other lower lvls out. Well hopefully i can catch u guys once awhile in game, and thank you all for being f@#$ing awesome people.

Was reading thru this and it got my attention
I used to play multiplayer games via local BBS thru the 80's, before the WWW went live in 93.
While working for AOL in the early 90's, they gave meh free internet access, so I got to play NWN regularly (you had to pay per minute to be online back then).
So you played NeverWinter Nights on AOL?
Was alot of fun and laid the groundwork for greater games to come.
NWN, was the only MMORPG out in 94 (it actually started in 91).
Meridian 59 came out in 96 with UO, EQ and then AC trailing just after.... 1st gen of MMORPG's FTW :thumb:

I didn't even know NWN was a game prior to the one released a few years ago (around the same time as morrowind). I played Sierra's The Realm. It's the game that started it all for me. I'm pretty positive that I was playing this game in 1994, because I was in fourth grade then, and that's when I started playing it.

I had some family members working for AOL in their time of exapansion. Were you stationed in the Northern Virginia area as well? If ya did, you wouldn't recognize the area now. :(
