No. Sig images do nothing but cause trouble and clutter the browser.

This is hte kinda thing that there seems to be enough interest to at least look at a configureable option, something probbaly that defaults to off, so those of us who hate them can not have them displayed, and those that want them can display and use them.

Probably be a size restriction (or a resizing by the forum) and something like "no animation" etc.

One thing to consider when comparing text to pics, pictures are substantially larger files than an squivalent block of text, and if you have say, 40 uniquw replies, that's 40x the download time for the page. Food for thought. I also use forums as a communication tool, and long download times, as well as blocks of text broken up by large images, make it difficult for me to READ what is being presented. It's visually jarring.

Zeph I think said he had a mod that might do that for us? Lets seee what is technically possible.

I'd be real interested in seeing what everyone has for their sig pics, go ahead and post them, lets have a look

Just thought I'd point out that the mod Zephy linked to only allows to the admins to modify what can/can't be in sigs on a global basis. Actually I haven't found a mod which does allow individuals to choose. So when I come to writing a mod for sig images, I'll probably use Zephy's linked mod as a basis, which should speed up the "coding" stage :).

I have also seen a mod to allow users the option of not seeing avatars/signatures in viewtopic.

Per-User Avatar/Sig Disable

I would suggest we use both mods, so we can control what's in the sig, and allow people to choose to see them or not.

Who knows, you may even be able to persuade me to help Fahd out and do some programming.

I am not saying anything about having something large and obnoxious.. I am saying something in the realm of 250x75 or even 200 would work. It's jstu something to personalize us a bit more.

50x50 is too much and obnoxious to me. Size doesn't matter to me.

Different opinions Fen. ;)

Having a mod to regulate this is probably a good idea, as there seems to be just enough interest for it.

Now thats kewl, having an option to see them and not see them is perfect. :thumb:

That way in normal posts its not a big thing and people can 'express' themselves but during longer topics you don't have to sift thru a dozen pages of sig pics :smack:

What's also worth noting is "good luck" to everyone who gets the duty of moderating them, seeing as how he'll have to have the option turned on.

:)

Um.. its not even an issue anymore.. its pretty obvious tha tthe vite is "no" so therefore we shouldn't even bother with it any further.

But this is non critical, and, only half the verified membership has voted.

Might as well see what the tech can do before ruling it out ;)

If it's implemented - you as the arbiter will have to have the sig pics turned on.

It's always possible someone will put an offensive sigpic and you have to be there and check them all out.

Actually, since I'm a moderator and can't change them on hand, I don't have to view them. But you will.

Happy stuff ;)

Mod edits their post and un-attaches their signature - a temporary measure but it will work :)

What I am saying is by installing the mod or whatever it is going agains thte current vote. I think if we are going to vote on this we should stick to our votes. If sig pics are voted through by some miracle, then we can decide on how to implement it.

Basically we are jumping the gun. We need to follow the vote :)

Votes aren't set in stone here, they're just a way to gather the opinion from the general consensus.

Working out a way to please everyone is the way to go, instead of alienating the minority. It won't always work, but it's good to try. ;)

I guess I had the wrong impression then. I feel we should go with however the vote goes.

Indeed we should (here and always), but there's no harm in exploring other options.

It seems something that might be solveable with technology in a way that makes everyone happy. Those kinds of compromises are worth exploring.

Besides, there are some 25 people not voted, and 4 days ish left in the vote ;)

But votes where a significant number of folks want one thing that is different from another significant number of the population mean that there is something worth looking at for compromise.

If a vote passes by say, 1 response, I'd call that almost a tie. Right now, almost 20% of our registered members are interested in seeing that.

Ignoring that 20% seems foolhardy in a newly minted organization. They cared enough to vote, I can care enough to do something about it.
