Getting our Members to the Forums

Post by Magdalena »

Need some suggestions and ideas for getting our current members to come up to the forums and at least sign up. Right now we have too many that have never been up here and posted. There are going to be a lot of decisions coming up in the near future for our guild. I'd like to see every full member taking part in these decisions. Some of them will have meetings called for them but others such as the invite process decisions are easier to talk about and brainstorm up here so this is where most of the discussions will take place. I know we've all mentioned signing up before but some don't seem to have taken an interest... so I'm opening this up for ideas from those that have.
Not saying they have to be an almost daily checker like me, but taking a look once in a while for the important stuff certainly wouldn't hurt... Don't want to force it on people, but also want to ensure nobody gets left out because they weren't doing it...
First thought is putting vent and web info into larger guild notes and changing the MOTD when there's an important topic up here they should look at once we get them to actually sign up... but getting them up here the first time is the most difficult part...

I was honestly thinking about this today after reading your suggestions. I think changing the MOTD and vent info would be a great start. I also belive we should really make sure everyone inthe guilid is told by one of us that this is am important part of our group and there are some really big things coming up that we need their input on. Perhaps making a list of everyone and talking to them as they come on in a separet Vent channel. I agree that not forcing them is the way to go, but making a strong point would be good.

Sounds like a good idea to me... knew someone would throw something out there, thanks Mark I was braindead after the other post but knew this was something just as important so they can post opinions on stuff like that.

I'm going to put a sticky up called try to talk to these people please... and put in the names I can think of from work, add to it guys... we'll remove them from the 'naughty' list once they get signed up.

If someone else will please take charge and change the MOTD and the guild notes tonight I'd appreciate it. (I won't remember that part by the time I get home tonight most likely..)

We can also just remind those people via vent and guild chat when they are on. And again I'm only counting the adults or teens and adults. I don't know if these is one of those forums or not (cause I can't remember) some say ask your parents' permission and all that. Personally I don't see anything wrong with a teen on this forum I don't see much bad language.

Why not just tell them that if they want to be a part of any descision-making process, they have to be here to participate innit?

MOTD has been changed

-edit-
I appologize for my lack of presence lately because I've had an extremely large ammount of school work stuff going on. As some of you know (those that I have spoken to about this) I have had a lot of things going on that required my attention. Hope to see you all online more often as soon as things smooth out!

Hello folks, some of you may recognize me ingame as "Minke". Friend of Pad's. Nice to meet ya!

While I'm not fulltime on Mannoroth (nor a board troll) occasionally I'll pop in. Seems a mystery to most guild leaders how to get guildmembers to use the forums, even moreso in WoW than in other games. I can give a suggestion that works for a massive guild on Icecrown:

Do not recruit until the person registers on the forums first.

While this will not guarantee the individual reading the boards thereafter, it's a start. However there is one major drawback to this idea: it's extremely impersonal.

I wish I had a magic formula (potion or spell, as you wish) for your dilemma. Best wishes from me to you all, see you ingame!
