Suggested raid changes (contd.)

Post by requiemdreamer »

Please read the previous thread if you haven't already:

After you vote, feel free to post below with any concerns or comments you would like to make known.

This poll should be considered with much thought as it is something that would affect all of us. The idea behind this is consideration of shaping up our raiding schedule and allowing other players into our raids that are not in our guild. Through this we would hope to make ourselves more well known on the server and to look for future initiates. This would not be permanent by any means and we could pull the plug on it at any time if necessary.

The goal of doing this is to motivate people to make it to the raids on time, to get the raid going sooner for those who are on time, and to make ourselves known on the server.
Keep in mind, no changes will be made exclusively based off of this poll. Any changes would only occur during a saturday guild meeting.
Below is an example schedule. Just something to start from.

(Note: Raid begins as soon as all spots are filled)
7:00 - 7:15: Invites go out to those online and registered on GEM
7:15 - 7:30: Invites begin for people on waiting list and for late-comers
7:30 - 8:00: Any remaining spots are filled by PUGs of the desired classes(late guild members still welcome at this point)
8:00: Break up raid if there still aren't enough people

Cliff Notes:
- You have 15 minutes before you lose your registered spot to the next person
- You have 30 minutes before you start losing spots to non-guildies
- After 1 hour, the raid the disbands

Also... A suggested loot-style for raids with non-ssx players:
Magdalena wrote:Suggestion for this, turn on group loot while clearing trash, everybody rolls need on all boe items... if it truely is something you need, speak up... if it went to a non guildie, there's no guarantee you'll get it however it lets us know the selfishness of that person if they do later ask to join our guild. If it went to a guildie, chances are they'll hand it over unless it was something the character they're on needed too.
At boss battles, turn on master loot to avoid chance of ninjas or people rolling on items that aren't really for their class. Set up a table of all items known in the instance and what classes are able to roll on them and post it on our website. We can then point non-guildies to that site in the beginning so they can be assured we're not trying to cheat them and that is the same designation we use every time on that item.
If there's an item that say should go first to healers or first to casters, we can start with the page showing that and expand later to other groups it might also benefit, however those healers or casters may still lose out on the item to a non guildie of the same class and this may cause arguments from non guildies if they see it later expanded so probably not the best idea.

One thing on this topic to keep in mind is that these slots would still be first given to SSX members that are there at raid time, going first to those that have signed up via the GEM, then to those that are in guild and not signed up but online. I think req's schedule idea is great for this as it allows us to go SSX only if we have the people, but also to possibly carry on even if we're missing a few that week.
The possibility for finding new members in the classes we need is also a plus to consider.

Obviously this restricts implementation of a loot system on some nights and would mean members would neither gain attendance or have items added to their loot percentage on nights where it does not end up being full SSX.

Systems to prevent ninjas would have to be in place as well... this means group loot for trash mobs and Master Loot at bosses. This would prevent us putting ourselves at risk to less trustworthy pugs out there, and keep the loot system fair to them as well.

If we are going to let non-guildies in, I think we should be going to MC then.

I'm all for filling in spots with non-SSX. Recently I've run with a couple people in other guilds who I would consider prime SSX material if they weren't already guilded. One is Kim, who many of you met on Vent while we were getting ready for AQ. The other is in Tattered Virtues, a group that Mark had good things to say about. From what I've heard from people who know them is that they're a small and tight group like we are.

Filling in empty spots with non-SSX is our best way of gaining alliances and new members who have end game experience in the future.

I believe filling in for an MC group would be our best bet, perhaps we should start a small guild alliance for this even. Start with inviting pugs to run this and hopefully by the time we're ready to start an alliance, Jack and I will have the web application and database ready for our loot system.

We've finally gotten through most of the study and learning portion and are starting to pull together the pieces we need for it. One area we will need help on a little later is in getting the data populated, however there are some back end items that we still have to finish first.

For this reason, we will not be online during the week this week in order to try and get this project moving along in a more timely manner. I'm hoping if we don't hit too many obstacles that we'll have a bare bones ready within a week or two.

This has definitely been a learning experience for me.

Just a couple of things that I would say about doing an MC run. Since we can only fill up about half (20 people) of the raid there will be a lot more spots we need to fill. This could take a while to fill those spots. Undrin was telling me that the PUG Onyxia run he went on took forever to fill up. I'm not saying that it's deffinitely going to take longer, just that there will be more spots to fill so it stands a chance that it will take a while. Just wanted to point that out for those who voted 'yes' so that we could speed up the process of forming our raids.
Also, there will be a lot more people to manage and organize on these runs. It will be a lot more stressful on those organizing the raids.
There will also be a lot of ninja-skinning for core leathers so we might even have to just announce at the beginning of the raid that our guild is taking all core leather and dark iron, etc.

I am deffinitely up for doing MC runs. I just wanted to voice some concerns to make sure people are aware of these issues.

given that we have around 18-20 people showing every raid day, it shouldn't take too long to get anther 10 or so people, I mean we don't need a full 40 man to take out some bosses in MC... do we?

For looting purposes, might I suggest a master looter that will loot everything and distribute it at the end of the raid...to encourage fulltime participation and cooperation from non-guildies. If someone has to leave early, perhaps allow them (and anyone else) to roll on any need items that have dropped (it is their responsibility to keep track of any need items, I don't suggest going over all of the items to keep the pace of the raid flowing).

Also, if you like Tattered Virtue and they are the same size group with the same values, try creating an alliance with them and inviting them regularly to your scheduled raids instead of opening up to a pug...if you have issues with their guildmates you can bring it up with their gm to handle them (whether it be loot related or behavior related). This will help avoid ninja looters that can easily take advantage of a pug situation.

If the alliance guild works well with you, getting the number of invites you need with the proper balance of classes for 40-man instances shouldn't be too difficult.

Just a couple of cents, feel free to adopt or disregard :D
