Onyxia

Post by Magdalena »

Hey guys, was thinking we might look at giving Onyxia a try Fri or Sat night to change things up a bit... not sure what everyone thinks or if we can get everybody's jailbreak line done in time, but wanted to post the idea up here...

I know we've been talking about trying this with a smaller group (25-30) so thought I'd get some input on when we want to stop talking and start acting on it...

Def weird cookie. Although I think mag, trix and I have ran brd way too much. Straight for at least a month is not a good way to do an instance as I have learned.

I've worked my way up to the quest to kill general drak in ubrs, seems like it took forever. Pugs for jailbreak aren't that bad but I've found pug ubrs groups usually fall down & go boom at rend or shortly thereafter.

Onyxia sounds like just the sort of change of pace we need for Friday. I'm all for it. I also think we need to stick with it until she's downed even if we wipe a lot. I've got no doubt we can do it once we learn what we need to do based on our own group dynamics.

Good idea Mel!

Onyxia sounds like a great idea and whose to say we can't still go to ZG afterward or possibly head on over to AQ.

From what I have been told Ony should only take from 45 minutes to an hour tops so we should have plenty of time to go on our 20 raid.

I will help out with anyone needing their attunement runs for Onyxia.

Thanks Sean, I didn't get a look at it after the update. It should be more easily digested now.

2 helms of wrath. Can't complain there... :D

So now Onyxia seems to be a very realistic goal for us I would like to suggest setting up a static time for killing her. The encounter resets every 5 days so we could do a once a week thing until we get enough people to do it every 5 days. Perhaps this Friday night? We could attempt Onyxia a couple of times, and then move on to ZG/AQ after we're done. We might be able to do it fine with just our current guild members but I would suggest that if people are up for it, I can give STNY notice that we will be doing it those nights if any of their off-raiders or alts would like to come along with us to help and for loot.
We will need a massive overhaul of getting our members attuned this week. Go go Yuki pre-planned iffy instance runs.

I would have to agree. Doing this weekly will be a much easier task once all of our guys have attunement. Definitely don't see a problem getting a group together for her, we'll need to run it a lot to get everybody cloaks and heads.

Need to try on a night we can at least get 20-25 people together for it. Friday nights will be good, but not likely to schedule until everyone is attuned. If all there Friday night are attuned we can definitely give it a whirl. May also be a good incentive for coming back Saturday nights.

I'd say put it after ZG/AQ20 though for 2 reasons... 1, more people tend to show up later, and 2, incentive to stay the entire run.

If we start getting enough people--and it seems that we are--we might want to consider moving some of these raids to the weeknights. Personally, I feel it is unfair to schedule more than one large scale raid a day (Onyxia doesn't count). If anything like AQ20 or ZG gets planned for Sat. or Sun. night then people end up having to play WoW for just about the entire day to make it to both of them. Planning one group instance a day allows people the wiggle room to plan their day/week around.

I know there really hasn't been anything like this happening yet but I have seen suggestions and comments about doing raids after our MC raids. I'm just suggesting that if MC/BWL/AQ40 are our primary focuses, and the weekends are when most of our people are on, that we keep those instances for the weekends and do ZG and AQ20 during the weekdays.

I'm seeing more and more people on during the weekdays, and almost enough to do our 20-man raids. Not to mention, I'll bet there are members who don't log on during the weekdays because they know the guild isn't doing anything. I'm willing to bet that the more activities we start offering as a guild during the weekdays, the more participation we will start seeing.

Maybe something like this: (just for example)
Wed(8/2): AQ20
Thur(8/3): Finish AQ20 / ZG
Fri(8/4): Finish ZG / Onyxia
Sat(8/5): MC
Sun(8/6): MC

(Each week, the AQ20, ZG, and Onyxia days would get pushed back a day. So we would raid:
Wed/Thur/Fri
Tue/Wed/Thur
Mon/Tue/Wed
And then repeat. This keeps on par with the reset days.)

If either AQ20 or ZG get finished in one night then we just move on to the other one the following day. This plans out a couple of days so that we can clear out as much as possible from both instances and allow ourselves enough time to make more attempts at the final bosses. We wouldn't have to push people to stay in the raids for more than four hours. Once we do start clearing the 20-man instances in one night then that will just make things easier. And people wanting to do both ZG and AQ20 will be able to do so, and we won't have to trade off between doing one or the other each week.
And also, people would be able to know well ahead of time what days the runs will be because with the Raid Calendar and Guild Event Manager, the entire month's raid schedule will be easily visible.

Just wondering what all of your thoughts are on this. And this is my attempt at getting some more activity on the weekdays.

req.....it's now ur job to implement the strat that u just talked about...please keep us posted on the outcome....

remember we do not accept excuses...we only expect results from u....anything less is a failure....

the failure of this strat on your part will lead to the surrender of ur post as the PR of SSX Mannoroth server......

we will then repoint you to the new post of our desire aka toilet cleaner of SSX Mannoroth Server.....

please keep in mind, we only want you to succeed..anything less would be uncivilized!!

Good luck!

Well, I'll try to spread the word and post the events on GEM. First night would be this Wednesday 8/2 either ZG or AQ20 (that's up to you guys) at the usual 8:00pm. If enough people can be online early enough we can push that back to 7:00pm so we can get people their sweet loot and let them head off to bed. Perhaps even notify STNY about spot availability after we've given SSX members enough time to show up. Who knows, this could be a flop, but I think that once we get some of these things going, people might actually start to show up on time or :::gasp!::: early like they have been for the MC raids.

At least 2 cents worth

Post by Aoiren »

Based on how the raid went on Sunday, I want to suggest something for the next Onyxia fight. We were doing ok until the third stage, at which Mag promptly died during the first fear event.

Something that I did during a successful attempt that I did not remember to do on Sunday was to spam fear ward during Stage 2 on as many healers and anyone close by as I could. This will help for the first fear encounter, but do not expect any fear wards during stage 3 because all will be on our main tank. Make sure that any healers put a shield and/or a HoT on Mag during stage 3 so that she can stay up until after the fear drops for the rest of the group.

During Stage 2 even groups should be on one side of the map and odds on the other to help with healing. When in doubt DoT so as to bring Onyxia down quicker.

We might also want to group back for stage 3 in the same position as we did for stage 1 so that no one gets feared into the whelp caves. I do not think we got whelps during stage 3 but no need to take chances.

Alot of this has been discussed already except for the fear warding.
Anyone have any comments concerning this?

Here's what I saw from my point during stage 3, I was still getting heals from one healer which would have been ok until fear was over, but also had about 4-5 whelps on me which made my survivability with limited healing very very low, and also saw another 4-5 coming up our way, the most likely reason being someone was too close and feared into the whelp caves since they didn't appear until a few after I got her. Also, someone may have been too close to the tail while regaining aggro... splat into the caves.

This part is something only learned with time on Ony... if for some reason whelps are brought in during phases 1 & 3, dps should focus on getting them down before going back to ony. Healers can keep me up for a fairly long time if Ony dmg is all they have to worry about, and we're not on a time limit for killing this witch.

Fearwarding healers will get them killed at landing.
It's a decent idea for the experienced healers as long as these experienced healers know when /not/ to heal though ;)

I normally bubble on my pally to ensure a few heals if they're needed after landing.
P2 was really messy for a lot of reasons, and onyxia landed without much prompting.
