Give AQ a shot this weekend.

Post by lili »

Wondering if anybody want to give AQ a shot this friday. I wouldn't say instead of ZG though. Just try it up to the seond boss. Give the second boss max of two tries (unless people want more tries and if we down him then we can see about trying more) and if we can't down him, move right over to ZG. We've been running pretty fast though ZG, so I figure since ZG doesn't reset on Satuday morning, it will still give us plenty of time on satuday for ZG as well. I know people tend not to come back after MC, so if MC does run late, how about we say meet back at 9pm rather than 8pm so people can decompress for a bit longer before back to raiding again. Besides our own guild raids are always fun when we are drunk. And Mark has volunteered to get really really drunk with Chris this weekend. Also another good reason for AQ is that some of the books are actually good and will help us a lot for our MC runs. And I'm sure QD can add other stuff that will probably help us with MC as well. Since I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open, this post will not be gramatically correct.

Ya, the books in there are really good. There are 3 books for each class that I am aware of.

If you want to take a shot at the bosses in there you are going to need some good advice.

First point - do not let the NPC's die, rep gains from them living through the encounter are HUGE. Second point - third captain that comes, you want to drop him first before any other adds. His AOE sucks and can do some really big damage in a short peiod of time.

Make sure you have your CTRA mod for boss encounters in AQ 20 on, it will keep track of the attacks for you.

If there is anything else I can help you with, give a shout, I have done that raid a few times....I like it, all the bosses there are really puzzles and not straight up DPS matches.

Reasons AQ20 is better than ZG:

The books scale, items in ZG do not.

Frostbolt Rank 11 will boost frost mage DPS extremely effectively after they pick up some plus damage gear, they will be going from looking at 1300 crits, to 3000.

Paladins will be looking at 5000+holy light crits, and blessing of wisdom, blessing of might is nothing to be sneezed at.

Priests get a new rank renew, prayer of healing and greater heal (I THINK!) all of which are very valuable.

Rogues get a new rank of feint - which they will love, they also get a new rank of backstab, and sinister strike (iirc) which are also very good.

Druids get Starfire, Rejuve and Regrowth I think...

WARRIORS - Get a new rank of Revenge, Heroic strike, and Battleshout.

The list goes on, and they are all well worth picking up.

If you can get 2 well geared warriors and 3 warlocks, a few paladins, a druid and a priest or two + some misc dps we can easily look to clearing most of the instance.

The fights are all pretty original, and really very fun (.....except possibly moam and ossirian on occasion (ossirian when your raid is serially unlucky, and moam is just blah without mana drain)).

You know I'm up for it... me being the person that would've rather skipped zg entirely lol... just been going with what I thought the rest of you wanted... aq20 all the way, though with picking this up we may wish to hold off on the ony attempt until we get some of the snazzy new abilities... give people a little more time for attunement anyhow...

Cheers!

Don't we need Nature Resistance for AQ?

Other than that.. I like the idea, but we might need to use a different tactics from the ones we used previously.. takes us 3 tries to kill the 1st boss. Did it become a bit easier after the patch? Have't gone to AQ for a while.

I will go on rogue... if warrior is needed.. i will go on warrior... just fyi - warrior is back to arms spec. If need to be protection again.. i have no problem with respeccing it.

You only need NR Gear for one boss (two characters need NR gear, preferably, two hunters), and that boss is one I intend to suggest you skip anyway.
For the rest of the instance in general, there are occasions it helps, but it's not worth gimping for.

It's a DPS orientated instance, there are very few instances of 'standing and tanking' - so AQ20 is a good learning experience for:
Ragnaros.
BWL.
AQ40.
Naxxramas :p

Although because it's not tank and heal it means it's more active and therefore people can't be lazy during the instance, it also means it's a lot more fun, there's a boss in there that you don't tank at all - he just runs around trying to kill people (and he two shots clothies and warriors alike) whilst you whittle him down with a special function in the fight, and at 20% you have to nuke him, even healers, everyone... nuke the living snot outta him.

It's a fun instance :p

Thanks.
I really wasn't sure, so I just took a guess at three core abilities.

Guess insta poison is your sucky one :P
(So rogues are: Backstab, Insta poison, and feint).

Rogues receive backstab, feint & deadly poison.

Backstab adds a flat asswhooping 15 dmg after the weapon modifier. ... simply sucks, but hey... at least its an upgrade of an ability certain rogues use.

Which leads to deadly poison (the dot one): Well no sane rogue should ever use this garbadge. Insta poison deals as much on the spot, just on a slightly less procrate, no debuffslot taken... but deadly is capped anyway with 5 applications.

Aaand feint. Used in the rogue class debate along with vanish every 5 min as the major excuse for aggro controled dps, which makes the class (bare hunters) the only viable dps in aggro sensitive fights. Its overrated. A flat reduction (about 300-400dmg) & after your next white crit it adds up back to where you were. On top of that its using eng & if you feint constantly you gimp your dps significantly (thats the real aggro dump of feint, hoax). Use vanish smart (if it works) & youll barely use this aggro wonder junk at all. Hmm, at least BoS wont reduce feint efficiency anymore in 1.12.

There are some REALLY nice books for most classes in AQ20, which makes it really worth while (& AQ20 is fun) ... but for rogues theres not.

Greetings everyone. I believe that today both Onyxia and AQ are on the raid schedule. I know more people have gotten their attunement during this week so we might have enough to finish her off.

As to the AQ battle, I have been doing some reading and have found why we are getting the additional waves during the second boss fight.

*If the NPCs are out of combat for 30sec, they will call for the next wave.*

To complicate matters the last add being used for mana regen was being pulled way too far from the door. This meant it took a longer time for people to get back into position. When the next wave came in anyone staying with our MT was getting pwned. We should take the last add close to the NPCs at the door so that we can move it to them after 20secs has expired.

After 20 sec of mana regen, we should move the add to the NPCs and let them take it down while the rest of us finish off the boss quickly and get ready for the next wave.

The next wave is trigged by one of the following conditions: 3 minutes have elasped since the last wave, the NPCs are out of combat for 30sec or all of the wave is dead.

The only other bit of important info I came across is that the NPCs will only attack mobs close to them at the door. If the mobs are feared, entangled or frost novaed the NPCs will not attack them.
