Priest class question

Post by Aoiren »

I have checked out most of gear you can get as a priest and I know everyone plays differently, but is there a point where having more +healing gear is overkill and it is better to go for more mana regen?

The only bit of info I have seen was on some of the commentary on the Naxx fights which recommends that you have some healers with around +1000 healing.

I know you can downrank your healing to conserve mana but in the later instances (BWL, AQ40, Naxx) is it just better to have more mp5 gear?

Just would like some advice to what I should be going towards.

It goes that way with every class, druids with healing touch rank 4, priests with heal rank 2 or 3, paladins with HL 4 or FoL 2.

There is a balance where +healing becomes overkill, and that's the point where your rank 1 heals are the most mana efficient, mathmatically, anyway.

For practice, in BWL you want 400-500ish +healing, and for Naxx you want 1000 ish.

By the time you get to naxx that's not actually as stupidly insane a number as it sounds :p

The point is to not gain +heal at the expense of all other stats, +spi and +m5s is important.

M5S vs Spirit can be argued until you're blue in the teeth but the maths say Spi > M5S unless you aren't going to spec medi/3/8 trans, and pick up blue dragon as a bonus (not really needed but fun).

M5S is really a Paladin/Shaman/Druid stat since our spirit calcs don't even compare to priests in the slightest, let alone availability of 'regening whilst casting' talents/bonii.

Btw just to stress how powerful spi is, I know 3 priests who have long been hailed the best PvE healers on their server (and when you consider how internal raid pve is for guilds that's a very hard title to cash in), who have now got 7/9, or 9/9 Faith, and still use 3/8 Trans for raids (they picked up the faith parts they wanted to keep trans slots for first out of lack of choice -.-).

At lower levels, MC being the only real 40man instance that you can apply this to, mass spirit (if anyone remembers thoran :P) is actually viable.

If you want actual math for it though you'd probably have to ask the priest WoW forum (I feel like I'm throwing you to the wolves xP).

note:
There's very few fights in Naxx where you need to chain cast your biggest heals.
Plov might be the better guy to ask about naxx priestisms though.

Thanks for the info. I was just wondering because I am just shy of 700 healing and have 335 spirit. I was thinking I might be gimping myself too much statwise.
