Calling all Hunters!!!!

Post by Ash »

Okay as is my usual style I'm dabbling with various toons at the same time.

Rolled a NE Hunter (not that original I know) and started playing.

Now my question relates to Pets.
You tame your pet and then train him with abilities, this I know,
but I read on the WoW forum about certain animals having other abilities,
ie Bite, Claw etc.
There was even a list attached.

Now my question is:
How do you transfer these special abilities to your training list,
so that you can train a normal pet?

example
the named level 5 spider in the NE starting zone comes with level 1 Bite,
can I then somehow train my Snow Leopard to have Level 1 Bite?

Thanks in advance.

;)

Use the ability, Beast Lore, to see what skills if any a critter will have. If it is one your pet needs, an increase in skill or whatever, then go and put your main pet with a stable master and tame the new animal. Feed it and fight with it until you notice in your chat window that you have learned the new skill. Check your training list to be sure its there then abandon the pet. Get your old one out of the stables and train it.
I think Beast Lore comes around level 24 but not 100%.

Okay next question....

The common complaint against Hunters in Instances,
is that their pet aggros everything in sight.

Now I'm fairly sure thats due to people not knowing how the pet works.

So for my pet to be instance friendly will the following work?

1. Turn pet attitude to submissive
This I believe should make the pet only attack what I wish,
and not go running off to attack a mob.

2. Switch Growl from Automatic, to manual
This should prevent the animal taking aggro from the main tank.

Anything I've missed?

that's pretty much it, but if your pet is spec'ed right they sometimes make a better tank than a tank. I have no issues pulling agg from a tank but from a bear take a lot of crits for me to pull a mob off. Blizzard made growl really powerful.

Best way to avoid your pet agroing anything is to just put the pet away for the duration of the instance. Some pets such as a Wolf with the Furious Howl ability that give an attack power bonus to your group can be handy out, so if you want to keep it out, put the pet on full passive. This will stop the pet from attacking anything that you do not want it too AND you can still use the specials that come with the pet...such as Furious Howl.

Also, one last thing, I also use the Good Intentions site, it is really good and has a really nice list of the pets and where you can get the specific skills and the locations you can get them.
