Someone is abusing the mail system that is causing the gold amount in a message to actually be double or more that amount back to sender. This might be done through the C.O.D. ability so just be very weary of any message containing gold from someone you do not know.
This is not related to transactions made on the AH, so receiving gold from selling items is not the problem.
