Jerry, Mark and I formed a 3v3 group to fight some PVP matches over the weekend in between everyone helping folks get attuned and I must say...
ITs MAD FUN!
Not only are matches set up insanely fast, but they are over quick 2.
Yes your teams score is permanent, but you can always set up a new team later (with a whole new score) after you learn the ins and outs.
Arena Points are awarded every Tues.
Your team must have fought in at least 10 matches that week and you must have been in at least 30% of those matches to get the points.
The whole thing goes off of your teams rank (standing), which changes each time you fight another team.
The amount your rank changes matters on if you won or lost and what your opponents current rank is.

Thought I would do quick follow-up now that we got our arena points.
Something I just learned is that the rating that gives you the most points is the only one that is counted.
So in our case, between 2v2 and 3v3... our 3v3 score was higher so that is the one we got points for.
I used calculators from this site:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Arena_Point_Calculators
And found most of them to be very accurate.
Last but not least, even if you don't like pvp all that much, I still highly recommend spending a little time in the arena each week.
Think of it as another type of farming.
You don't lose anything, aside from the one time cost to form a group (roughly 40 or less gold a person), and you only need to get in 10 matches a week to qualify for arena points.
2v2 ques are usually 2-7 mins and 3v3 are usually less then a minute.
So you can often burn through 10 3v3 matches in less then a half hour.
The more you lose the more the your rank goes down... but um... the way the system works the match maker tries to set you up with others with a close ranking... So if your rating sucks, you will fight others who's rating sucks as well.
If you still can't win you still get points... shoot even at a horrid 1100-1200 score (you would have to lose like 99% of the time, which you would almost have to be afk at some point to do lol)...
You still get almost 300 arena points a week.
Yes it will take you a bit to get the omgwtfpwn arena weapon or armor piece but so what.
It is one of the fastest easy ways to get uber purples in the game...
Now if you are like me and actually ENJOY pvp... then it is a BLAST and fast furious fun (low ques rock).
Also remember that if you are doing TERRIBLE you can always form a new group later with a clean record

Here is a list of Arena Armor:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/rewa ... armor.html
Arena Weapons list:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/rewa ... apons.html

If you don't like PVP at all, I mean if you simply can't stand it.
Even in this fast and painless version...
Then I guess you still got the same old Grinding/Farming Raids option available for years to get your purples.
One of the main blizzard producers stated (in an insanely long 45 min interview) that they are trying to set it up where you are not forced to PVP or RAID if you don't want to. They give you the option of doing either one, mattering on your playstyle, to get your phat lewt.
On top of that, to have the best of the best combination of gear and get the most out of the game, they recommend you do both.

Gladiator's Maul is puuuurty.
The only way to improve PvP skills is to PvP, right? I hate BGs. This sounds much different...maybe I'll give it a try...
