Recruiting Guidelines

Post by Inquisitor »

We have a few new officers in the kinship, so, I thought I would post a bit about recruiting.

Basically, you know who we like, because we liked you well enough to "promote" you ;) So recruit more people like yourself!

We like people who act mature (more or less) and are generally not jerks. People who like teamwork, who don't want handouts, but aren't afraid of generosity. We like friendly people, our only rule as a gaming organization is that we act like friends should, that's why Friendship is prominently displayed up top. It should guide everything as much as possible.

So, to help ensure that goal:

1) Make sure you ask questions here or on /k or /officer
2) Try and get 2 or more of us to "meet" the person before inviting.
3) Post here when you invite someone, so those of us with less regular scheudles know whats going on.
4) If you make a mistake, don't worry about it, it happens, we move on. Try and learn from it and not repeat it ;)

No other rules, really. No class restrictions, none of that silliness. Maybe some day we will need to care about that, but I expect we will recruit people we like that we fellow with, so we will naturally fill class gaps, since we'll recruit classes we need. So far its been even. We're a pretty casual group, focused on friends first, game mechanics second. When its the other way around, we get ourselves into trouble.

I have basically "promoted" people on my own whim, because I got a good feeling about the person, they help alot, or they have been around the SSX for a while. No other criteria, just my gut, for now.

As I said to Syro, its not a promotion, or a reward, per se, its a responsibility. If you go into it with that in your head, you probably will make good decisions.

Oh, and FYI:

You may notice people who are not playing occasionally chime in, that's not only allowed, its encouraged. Its often handy to get another, outside opinion on things.

I joined the kin because I really enjoyed the attitude, "chit-chat," and game play of SSX's members while grouping with them. While I have had the privilege and sometimes nightmare of leading numerous small (10-20 members) to large guilds (1000+ players), I prefer the friendship model over the elite raiding model. I am a retired General who wants to enjoy gaming (lotro!!!) and share fantastic adventures with pleasant people who I consider my friends.

Man, if we had this going five years ago, I would have never gotten in.
