Insanity in Angmar

Post by Syro »

While galloping across Western Malenhad in Angmar on one of my finest steeds, I noticed a line of vile Fell Watch-Stones stretching north and south. The sight was ominous but not forbidding, so I made my approach without caution while encouraging my pony to ride with all the more haste.

Suddenly, our swift gallop was halted by these fateful words:

You have been defeated by misadventure!

What? Did that really happen? How could I suffer such an unexpected, instant death while gallivanting on my pony? I was in denial but thought it better to retreat before someone saw me. There was not a single foe in my vicinity, so how would I explain my death?

I asked advice from those who might be wiser, How does one die by misadventure? The response was silence. Had no one else suffered this same fate as me? I needed answers!

After I gathered my wit and the dread had lapsed, I decided to give the ride across Malenhad another go. I had been sent to a small settlement on the Eastern side; surely, my destiny lay beyond those dreadful Watch-Stones!

On my second approach, I cautiously scanned the area to see if anyone might be watching. If I was making another fool-hearty attempt to ride through the unsightly Watch-Stones, then I wanted no one to see my folly. No adventurers. All is clear. So I slowly trotted my steed between two of the Stones in such a way as to avoid touching either.

My second attempt was just as shocking as the first! Instant death by misadventure! I could not believe my fate. I should not pass through these beastly Watching-Stones or else I shall die! But the temptation was so great. Should I try it just one more time? Can I do it? I shall not tell the tale of my third approach. Let it remain with the gods because denial is such a strong foe of many human-kinds like myself.

But alas, this is a tale of insanity!

We have heard it stated that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. I could have / should have heeded Corinurs warning to stay away from the Fell or Deadly Watch-Stones in Malenhad. But I cannot blame myself for trying! I was (to avoid the possibility of humiliation) temporarily insane!
