Giving Away 30-50 Gold to One Very Lucky Person...

Post by Syro »

...who is NOT in our kin! Really? Yes!

We gave away 30-50 gold to one very lucky person who is not in our kin tonight. This should be a valuable lesson for all of us.

As a kin, we have invested 24+ hours in numerous fellowships to get a single Putrid Slime drop. 6*24=144+ total individual hours. This does not include all the gold, time, and effort spent to develop characters who can kill the boss in the first place.

Tonight...

One full kin group spent an hour getting to CD to summons another group so we could have 2 groups in CD. We were shy 1 person for 2 full groups. Out of 5 people in our combined groups who need the Putrid Slime, none of them got the drop. Why? Because we gave it away to a PUG individual in another kin who didn't deserve it.

There is a reason why Putrid Slime sells for 30-50 gold in the AH. It is an extremely rare drop that is needed by Captains, Lore Masters, and Hunters. We have several who qualify for needing it in the kin.

The group that had the PUG person should have went to Master Loot and informed the PUG player that our kin gets first take on it. Instead, one person who needed it in our kin decided to pass so another person in our kin could roll on it. We let the person who was not in our kin roll need and he won it. We had 5 people in that fellowship plus 6 others in another fellowship working to get the Slime. Essentially, we used 11 of our kin to help a nobody get a very prized item in the game.

Yes, Book 10 release will fix this problem. But... we should be mindful of PUG peeps moving forward that our kin and its peeps come first in fellowships. PUG peeps can have the left overs.

Please use Master Loot to ensure that we are taking care of ourselves and not the server when fighting bosses if a PUG person is tagging along.

Hard, expensive lesson but I hope we will grow from it.

Ouch.

But you told him to he could roll need right? Not a ninja, just bad planning?

Poor planning? Probably. Lack of experience was another factor. I wasn't with the PUG so I am not sure how it went down.

Definitely an opportunity to grow and learn the value of kin groups with a PUG tag along. Kin first. Tag-along PUG peeps last.

We should have informed him/her that this was a full kin group, he was welcome to complete quests with us, and any drops went to our folks first.

Lesson learned, hopefully.

At least the game is fun enough for it not to be fatal to have to repeat things.

For people who don't know, like me, what is Master Loot? Is it a setting in the game or just a personally enforced rule?

It's all good, Arrack. No critism or finger-pointing from me. This thread is intended to raise awareness and nothing more. It's a great opportunity for us to learn the value of our kinship and the need to take care of ourselves first.

We have such an awesome group of folks in our kin who are truly selfless, considerate, and very respectful of each other that I can see how kindness was even a factor in the outcome. One person expressed a need for it from our kin and everyone else passed so our person could have a shot at it.

Instead of ensuring an 83.3+ percent chance of winning it for someone in our kin, we rolled with a 50 percent chance and lost. We should have been 100 percent (Master Loot) on receiving the drop then maybe a 50 percent chance between the two kin folks who needed it in that group.

On the event itself...

Several folks experienced CD or a new part of CD for the very first time last night and we all had a blast! This is why we play the game... to have fun. It was definitely a fun event! ;)

Great question, Jeredoc. Thanks for asking.

Master Loot is a loot option that can be set by the fellowship leader at any time (in combat or out of combat). Boss loot can then be viewed by all team members and rolled upon using /roll 100. The fellowship leader has the option to immediately assign the loot to a person without a roll or to view each person's roll and assign it appropriately.

If a person closes the loot window and doesn't have a chance to see it, then the leader can link the loot in chat by dragging it into the chat window. It's very nice to use for big bosses.

It gives everyone a chance to reflect on the loot and decide whether they really need or want it, because the dreadful 30 second timer is eliminated. It also prevents PUG tag-along peeps from grabbing legendary or extremely rare drops from our kin.

Fortuanately or unfortunately, it's the responsibility of the fellowship leader with a PUG tag-along to watch out for our people, but we do not have any hardcore looting rules and don't really need them for ourselves at this point.

Arrack created a suggestion thread on looting that might be helpful reading as well:
