You're not alone. I have experienced it randomly on various toons over the last week.

The suggestion below will probably not fix the current problem but it's something.

I am receiving the message "chat server unavailable". What do I do?

If you are receiving this message, please try the following:

Log out of LOTRO and edit the userspreferences.ini file in your C:Documents and SettingsusernameMy DocumentsThe Lord of the Rings Online folder.

Look for this section:

[Net]
ConnectionSpeed=0.00
ComputeUniquePort=True
BindInterface=
UserSpecifiedPort=0

Change:UserSpecifiedPort=0 to UserSpecifiedPort=9000 so it looks like this:

[Net]
ConnectionSpeed=0.00
ComputeUniquePort=True
BindInterface=
UserSpecifiedPort=9000

Save changes.

Login and the LOTRO chat servers should be available.
