Group Website Template Design

I've now completed two different designs for the group website template which Quiz proposed in another vote. Time for you guys to have your say, which design do you like best and why?
Why you like one design best isn't really a necessity but if you could include it i'd be grateful as it will help me to improve my designs in the future.

I prefer the first one's layout. Having a left, right and center just seems to look better imo. :)

2nd. Might be the colors, but yea, the first does strain my eyes a lil.

Question: Why not just give people who want to add new groups the choice between the two?

Because then we are maintaining two sets of pages.

1 template, the group can recode to their hearts content after they get set up :)

For those of you that noticed that the poll closed, I haven't forgotten about this. Since the result was a draw i'm left in the position of choosing the template myself, as of yet i haven't selected the one i want used, so bear with me. I'll have decided sometime in the next couple of days.

Definately less lines = better.
