This is a game. You pay to play this game. Make sure you get your money's worth. Until someone else pays for your account, play the way you want to.
On a side note, why must someone feel obligated to choose a main? I enjoy playing my warlock and my mage almost equally. You all know me as Chris, and not by my character name. I'm the one attending the raids, not Hokie. I'm the one paying for this game, not Kharisma. I'm the one making valuable friendships, not Rlyan.
I was under the assumption that we raided to spend time together, with loot as an added bonus. This bonus is essential for the guild's progression in the game; thats obvious! But do we all see the big picture? If you lose a roll for a helm against someone, this only means your chance of winning that helm next time is that much greater. You still make a gain which puts you that much closer to obtaining that helm the next time it decides to drop. The guild makes the gain of a better helm and hopefully a player better suited to aid us in future guild runs.
In cases such as Exarkunns last T2 bracer, the guild just needs to voice that it is his last piece needed and hope that no one rolls against him. I trust people in this guild to make a selfless contribution when it is asked of them. We claim to be a family guild. Maybe we should have the faith to put our family to the test.
I leave WoW every 4-5 months for a month or two. I don't come back to the game because I enjoy playing it so much. Although this game is fun as hell, it's you guys that make this game worth playing and paying for. If we make it all about loot, I don't think the appeal of this guild will remain here for me. Changes are definitely needed concerning the fairness of the main vs. alt discussion, but I believe anything too drastic will be devastating to the friendly atmosphere of the guild.
Any large immediate change may also hurt this guilds population. When making this point earlier this week, I was asked why we should care if we lose members of the guild. I was told people always come and go. This is true, but why should we not halt a member outflow if at all possible? Weve spent months, if not the past two years, trying to build up this guild with responsible, respectful, and trustworthy individuals. Id like to think weve done a good job gaining a wonderful gang of guild members. Weve more or less fixed the lack of member problem this guild has faced over the past few months. We have much to more to do, but weve improved with gaining members who show for raids. I do believe that the looting system lacks fairness to mains. However, I do not think any large change should be made at once. This is obviously a delicate issue for many.
I have my suggestions for what I believe we need to do in order to maintain order as well as institute a little more fairness into loot rules, but I will mention them as soon as the topic is thought about by the rest of the guild populace. Once the thread lock is uplifted, I will comment on these issues. Id like to advise everyone to come up with their own ideas as well. Im sure you already have.
Also, Id like to respond to something disturbing I heard about my character (as a person, not a toon in WoW).
I've heard that some people say I've been playing Rlyan a lot lately for MC just because all the druid loot will be defaulted. This is true, but not for the selfish reasons I've been accused of. Would you rather have an additional healer who can be 7/8 Cenarion in a few short weeks, or 80g's worth of Nexus Crystals sitting idly in the guild bank? I use this example because I believe I see the big picture. I dont enjoy healing. Its too much responsibility. Although I dont have as much fun playing Rlyan as I used to, I play him at times because it benefits the guild. This doesnt mean Im being a hypocrite to my advice above, dont let anyone make you feel you have to play when you dont want to. I want to do this. I want to have a healer on reserve if hes needed. I want to do this for us.
I hope everyone has a great week! Looking forward to a great MC run on Friday!
