My Feelings, Guild Changes, and Defending My Character

Post by Rlyan »

I just want to reiterate that this guild is about the person who plays and not the character he or she plays. Don't let anyone tell you which character you're allowed to play or how to play them. If someone does, then this really isn't the guild we claim to be.

This is a game. You pay to play this game. Make sure you get your money's worth. Until someone else pays for your account, play the way you want to.

On a side note, why must someone feel obligated to choose a main? I enjoy playing my warlock and my mage almost equally. You all know me as Chris, and not by my character name. I'm the one attending the raids, not Hokie. I'm the one paying for this game, not Kharisma. I'm the one making valuable friendships, not Rlyan.

I was under the assumption that we raided to spend time together, with loot as an added bonus. This bonus is essential for the guild's progression in the game; thats obvious! But do we all see the big picture? If you lose a roll for a helm against someone, this only means your chance of winning that helm next time is that much greater. You still make a gain which puts you that much closer to obtaining that helm the next time it decides to drop. The guild makes the gain of a better helm and hopefully a player better suited to aid us in future guild runs.

In cases such as Exarkunns last T2 bracer, the guild just needs to voice that it is his last piece needed and hope that no one rolls against him. I trust people in this guild to make a selfless contribution when it is asked of them. We claim to be a family guild. Maybe we should have the faith to put our family to the test.

I leave WoW every 4-5 months for a month or two. I don't come back to the game because I enjoy playing it so much. Although this game is fun as hell, it's you guys that make this game worth playing and paying for. If we make it all about loot, I don't think the appeal of this guild will remain here for me. Changes are definitely needed concerning the fairness of the main vs. alt discussion, but I believe anything too drastic will be devastating to the friendly atmosphere of the guild.

Any large immediate change may also hurt this guilds population. When making this point earlier this week, I was asked why we should care if we lose members of the guild. I was told people always come and go. This is true, but why should we not halt a member outflow if at all possible? Weve spent months, if not the past two years, trying to build up this guild with responsible, respectful, and trustworthy individuals. Id like to think weve done a good job gaining a wonderful gang of guild members. Weve more or less fixed the lack of member problem this guild has faced over the past few months. We have much to more to do, but weve improved with gaining members who show for raids. I do believe that the looting system lacks fairness to mains. However, I do not think any large change should be made at once. This is obviously a delicate issue for many.

I have my suggestions for what I believe we need to do in order to maintain order as well as institute a little more fairness into loot rules, but I will mention them as soon as the topic is thought about by the rest of the guild populace. Once the thread lock is uplifted, I will comment on these issues. Id like to advise everyone to come up with their own ideas as well. Im sure you already have.

Also, Id like to respond to something disturbing I heard about my character (as a person, not a toon in WoW).

I've heard that some people say I've been playing Rlyan a lot lately for MC just because all the druid loot will be defaulted. This is true, but not for the selfish reasons I've been accused of. Would you rather have an additional healer who can be 7/8 Cenarion in a few short weeks, or 80g's worth of Nexus Crystals sitting idly in the guild bank? I use this example because I believe I see the big picture. I dont enjoy healing. Its too much responsibility. Although I dont have as much fun playing Rlyan as I used to, I play him at times because it benefits the guild. This doesnt mean Im being a hypocrite to my advice above, dont let anyone make you feel you have to play when you dont want to. I want to do this. I want to have a healer on reserve if hes needed. I want to do this for us.

I hope everyone has a great week! Looking forward to a great MC run on Friday! :thumb:

character attacks :(

I'm dismayed that you and others have been publicly accused of playing a particular toon for greedy reasons only. This has come up or been hinted in several threads now.

I think that everyone in the guild is a reasonable person. I propose that for the purpose of further discussion we all take it on faith that no one is picking particular toons each raid purely because of what loot they think they can get that night.

If you really think someone's behaving unfairly, don't let it stew. Talk to that person about it directly. If that doesn't resolve the conflict and it is affecting your enjoyment of the game, ask an someone to mediate.

Outta interest, how many other people remember the qualms chris had about taking his first few items on Rlyan?

I remember it quite clearly, that he was worried it'd jeporadise Hokie's chances on things Chris actually did aspire to acquire for his "main" for the good of the guild. ;)

Hokie told me that Rylan was a good for nothing son of a ....

But in response to the post. Well written and a good read. Chris, your voice might as well be mine. I feel the same way. I won't say anymore as I believe Chris summed up my thoughts as well.

Good post Chris. My thoughts has always been play what you want as long as the game is fun for you. When it's no longer fun and become a chore, then quit. If you are here just to make people miserable then leave. If you are selfish person and know it, don't bother joining the guild. If you can't take pleasure in seeing your guildmate improving their character, then reconsider why you play this game. In the end it's a game and what I want to take away from this game when I wash my hands of it are the friendships. I don't get to get out much to make friends because of school and responsibilities. This game is my way to escape from the reality that I see everyday of how messed up and unfair this world is. Can we keep this fantacy world of little gnome mechanical chickens not distroying the ozone layer the way it is. Just a happy little elf land.

Yes indeed THANK YOU CHRIS! Very nice post. Definetly play the toon ya want and just try and be aware of your other friends sitting in the burning, hot, lavaland that is The Molten Core!

Very well said chis.

Guys The one thing i think we need to remember here is why we go to the raids.

For me it's to hang out with all my freinds in the guild. If it was for loot then I could have gone to another guild for that. I wouldn't care if MC only dropped green items if i was there to have fun. Dear god how many UBRS runs did we all make just because we wanted something to do together. In my eyes MC is just a bigger UBRS where 40 of my friends can all play together.

Great Post Chris....I feel that this guild is about hang out and having a great time together. If you want to play a toon( main or alt) why should it matter as long as it helps the guild out. I should know I have 4 60 but I will come on my priest before any other cause that is what isa needed. I enjoy playing her too but there are times I have to play something else and everyone is great about it. This guild is about being a family and having a great time together
